Job Description

As a Hardware Reliability Engineer at Apple, you will identify high-risk failure modes early in the design process and collaborate with design engineering teams to mitigate these risks. You will create innovative reliability tests based on physics of failure and user behavior, ensuring products meet the highest standards. Responsibilities include developing critical test equipment, managing vendor collaborations, and supporting failure analysis to drive continuous product improvements. This role requires strong problem-solving skills and technical expertise to ensure product durability and reliability.
Good To Have:
  • Statistical experience such as Weibull, JMP, or familiarity with accelerated test models.
  • Familiarity with Failure Analysis techniques (Optical Microscopy, X-ray/CT, Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy).
  • Ability to use failure analysis methodology to derive a root cause of failure.
Must Have:
  • Identify high-risk failure modes early in design and work with engineering teams to reduce risks.
  • Create new reliability tests based on physics of failure and anticipated user behavior.
  • Develop and deliver critical test equipment and specifications, collaborate with vendors.
  • Support failure analysis efforts, offering design recommendations for continuous product improvements.
  • Deep understanding of material and device properties (mechanical, electrical, optical, thermal) and underlying physics.
  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis and clear reporting for design risk assessments.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge in physical failure analysis techniques (SEM/EDX/X-Ray).
  • Proven ability to develop new reliability test procedures, create detailed test plans, and analyze results.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, materials, electrical engineering, physics or related fields.
  • 2+ years of experience in an engineering role.
  • Collaborative attitude and ability to work cross-functionally effectively.
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills.
