Job Description

This internship at the Thales Toulouse site focuses on satellite systems engineering and antenna design. You will join the Software & Algorithms team to deploy and test a new beamforming method using linear programming for active antennas. The goal is to optimize flexibility and performance, enabling targeted control of radiating elements and precise management of feeding laws. Responsibilities include an in-depth study of linear programming applications to beamforming, developing a Python prototype with antenna designers, and presenting results for feedback.
Good To Have:
  • Taste for IT development.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Autonomy.
  • Ability to write and synthesize.
Must Have:
  • Conduct an in-depth study on the application of linear programming to beamforming.
  • Develop a Python prototype in collaboration with antenna designers.
  • Present results regularly during team meetings and adapt the solution based on feedback.
Perks:
  • Technological expertise.
  • Attention to employee work-life balance.
  • Inclusive and benevolent environment.
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index…).
  • Regulated internship with remuneration based on study level.
  • Integration and support within a small co-located team.

Let's build a future of trust together

Thales is a global high-tech leader specializing in three business sectors: Defense & Security, Aeronautics & Space, and Cyber & Digital. It develops products and solutions that contribute to a safer, more environmentally friendly, and more inclusive world. The Group invests nearly 4 billion euros per year in Research & Development, particularly in key innovation areas such as AI, cybersecurity, quantum, cloud technologies, and 6G. Thales has nearly 81,000 employees in 68 countries.

Our commitments, your benefits

  • Our technological expertise
  • Our attention to employee work-life balance
  • An inclusive and benevolent environment
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index…)

Your daily life

The Toulouse site is responsible for satellite systems engineering, payload design and production, as well as the development and qualification of ground segments. It includes a research center and an industrial accelerator for start-ups and ventures.

This internship takes place within the Software & Algorithms team of the Antenna product line, responsible for engineering tools for the design and simulation of satellite antennas, including those with beamforming capabilities. The objective of the internship is to deploy and test a new beamforming method, based on linear programming, to optimize the flexibility and performance of active antennas. This mathematical optimization method offers unprecedented opportunities, such as targeted extinction or activation of radiating elements, or precise management of feeding laws (amplitudes and phases) with discrete levels.

You will first conduct an in-depth study on the application of linear programming to beamforming, then you will develop a prototype in Python, in collaboration with antenna designers. You will regularly present the results during team meetings and adapt the solution based on feedback.

Your profile

Is your priority to complete a 4-month internship?

Do you have the ambition to perfect your knowledge in signal processing?

Do you have this desire to find the right information through bibliographic research and analysis of technical documents?

You are a 2nd-year engineering school student or a Master 1 student and you have experience in:

  • Python programming,
  • mathematical optimization and linear programming,
  • antennas,
  • commonly used Python modules in applied mathematics such as numpy, scipy…

Are your taste for IT development, good communication, autonomy, and ability to write and synthesize recognized assets?

Then this position is for you!

A word from the team

You will join a small co-located team, facilitating your integration, support, and the success of your internship.

All our internships are regulated and subject to remuneration, the amount of which is determined according to your level of study.

Thales, a Handi-Engaged company, recognizes all talents. Diversity is our best asset. Apply and join us!
