Job Summary

Morningstar is seeking an Investment Analyst to join its Investment Management group, specifically the Workplace Solutions team. This role involves constructing, refining, implementing, and overseeing multi-strategy portfolios for institutional clients. The analyst will conduct in-depth asset allocation and portfolio construction analysis, support client relationships, resolve investment data issues, and participate in testing and research projects. The position requires collaboration with international teams and a focus on innovating and improving retirement products and services.

Must Have

  • Conduct in-depth asset allocation, portfolio construction, and investment vehicle analysis on retirement products.
  • Support client relationships, communicate project goals, and act as a key investment resource.
  • Identify and resolve investment data issues with technology, data groups, and clients.
  • Participate in testing projects to enhance current methodologies and processes.
  • Identify and recommend solutions for time-consuming and repetitive daily deliverables.
  • Automate legacy processes using Python, SQL, and advanced Excel skills.
  • Participate in research efforts on the retirement industry, focusing on advice and managed accounts.
  • Assess theoretical and practical implications of methodology to innovate and improve products.
  • Maintain developed tools and macros, acting as owners where needed.
  • Liaise with research, technology, advice engines, and product managers on ongoing issues.

Good to Have

  • An MBA and/or Chartered Financial Analyst Level 1 designation or pursuit of either qualification is preferred.
  • Experience with or a desire to learn Morningstar software.

The Investment Management group consists of our Managed Portfolios and Workplace solutions teams. Within Morningstar Investment Management, LLC, the Workplace group offers a range of retirement solutions, including managed accounts, custom models, and advice service by acting in a fiduciary capacity or as an independent financial expert, as defined by ERISA: IFE, 3(28), or 3(21) capacity. The flagship product is our Morningstar Retirement Manager which provide personalized advice on how much to save for retirement, a saving strategy, and builds portfolios for individual investors. The Workplace team consists of the investment management team, the research team, the Advice Engines team, the operations team, and the Workplace client services team. The goal of these teams is to work together to build and maintain well-diversified fund portfolios while helping our clients to understand our portfolio construction process.

The Role: Morningstar is seeking an Investment Analyst to join our team of investment professionals. This person will help construct, refine, implement, and oversee multi-strategy portfolios for large institutional clients. In this role, you will lead projects, support and partner with other team members, and be responsible for analysing investment data to determine solutions for our clients. You will work closely with other members of the Investment Management team including client relationship managers, operations/technology, developers, senior management, and other team members around the world. The position is based in our Navi Mumbai office, but will require weekly calls with our international teams as well as occasional international travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth asset allocation analysis, portfolio construction analysis, and investment vehicle analysis on retirement products using key modern portfolio theory statistics and techniques.
  • Support client relationships, communicate project goals and status updates externally, and act as key investment resource on an ongoing basis.
  • Identify and work with technology, data groups and clients to resolve investment data issues.
  • Participate in testing projects to enhance current methodologies and processes within the server-based portfolio construction software.
  • Be able to identify and recommend solutions for daily deliverables which are time-consuming and repetitive in nature.
  • Automate legacy processes with the help of languages like Python, SQL and advanced excel skills.
  • Participate in research efforts on the retirement industry with a focus on advice and managed accounts products and services.
  • Assess the theoretical and practical implications of our methodology as you strive to innovate and improve our products and services.
  • Maintain tools and macros developed over the years and act as owners wherever needed.
  • Liaise with teams including research, technology, advice engines, product managers, etc and be on top of ongoing issues and modifications carried out at a broader level.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in finance, business or economics
  • An MBA and/or Chartered Financial Analyst Level 1 designation or pursuit of either qualification is preferred
  • Beginner/working knowledge of Pyton/SQL. Able to query the APC database independently.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant investment experience, preferably in the financial services industry.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable working in a quantitative environment.
  • Creativity, the desire to innovate, and investing passion.
  • Experience with or a desire to learn Morningstar software.
