Job Description
JetBrains makes industry-leading professional IDEs and team software. We are seeking a developer advocate with deep technical knowledge of Java and the surrounding ecosystem — including modern JVM frameworks such as Spring, Micronaut, Quarkus, and related build and testing tools.
At JetBrains, our advocacy team’s mission is to make developers better. Candidates need to be self-starters: take initiative, plan tasks, coordinate across teams, and finish projects by themselves with light supervision.
We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes Java and JVM (such as Kotlin): understands the language’s evolution, the needs of enterprise and cloud-native developers, and the developer experience across the JVM landscape. This person should be able to convincingly explain how our products can credibly enhance developer productivity in the Java ecosystem. We are looking to hear from candidates who are experienced, passionate, empathetic, and ready to help drive our roadmap based upon industry trends and developer feedback.
In this role, you'll:
- Attract attention to and explain various aspects of Java technology using our product portfolio (through speaking, videos, blog posts, livestreams, sample code, live demos, etc.)
- Build and maintain relationships and a reputation in the industry with global and regional communities and on social networks.
- Work with community influencers on joint initiatives to promote our product.
- Provide feedback to the product teams and help them shape the roadmap.
- Meet with customers to listen to them, educate them about our offerings, and bring feedback to the product team.
- Speak to the press on behalf of our products.
- Contribute as needed to other areas at JetBrains.
We’ll be happy to have you on our team if you have:
- Applied experience with software engineering best practices: testing, refactoring, version control, etc.
- Practical experience with one or more Java frameworks such as Spring, Hibernate, and Quarkus. Deployment experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and related technologies: Hibernate, JUnit, logging, testcontainers, databases, messaging frameworks.
- Strong understanding of the JVM toolchain, build systems (Gradle, Maven), and testing frameworks (JUnit, TestNG).
- Fluency in both spoken and written English.
- Experience in developer advocacy.
- Excellent communication skills, especially the ability to tell a compelling story about a technology.
- Self-organization, goal-setting, and time-management skills.
- Willingness to travel.
We’d be especially thrilled if you have:
- Established reputation in the Java development community.
- Experience with JetBrains tools.
- Proficiency in several programming languages (Python, Java, Kotlin, etc.).
- Background working in an environment with highly distributed, diverse teams.
- Portfolio of speaking engagements (conference recordings) and screencasts. Please submit it with your application.
