Job Summary
This role involves coaching a team of data scientists, owning key metrics for user journeys, leading experimentation from hypothesis to recommendations, and partnering with Product, Engineering, and Design to drive engagement, retention, and activation. The Lead Data Scientist will also uplift BI foundations and translate data into actionable insights to enable data-driven, personalized user experiences at scale across onboarding, resurrection, triggers, and next-best actions.
Must Have
- Coaching a team of embedded data scientists to deliver insights, experimentation, and strategic clarity
- Owning key metrics for onboarding, personalisation, and lifecycle journeys
- Leading end-to-end experimentation, from designing hypotheses to rollout recommendations
- Partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and Design to drive engagement, retention, and activation outcomes
- Uplifting experimentation and BI foundations across Snowflake, Looker, and Canva’s internal tools
- Translating data into actionable recommendations and setting the standard for high-impact analysis and storytelling
- Enabling data-driven, personalised user experiences at scale
Good to Have
- Led and coached data scientists within a fast-paced product environment
- Strong expertise in experimentation, retention analytics, and lifecycle metrics
- Fluent in SQL and comfortable with data wrangling in Python or R
- Worked with SaaS product datasets and know how to balance rigour and speed
- Known for crafting clear, evidence-based recommendations that drive decisions
- Love turning complexity into clarity, especially when guiding non-technical stakeholders
- Enjoy growing people and lifting the bar for storytelling, experimentation, and impact

This role will see you:

We power onboarding, resurrection, personalisation, and B2B data experiences that help people start designing and keep coming back. Whether it’s through reducing friction, recommending the right next action, or helping sales teams target high-quality leads — we put data at the centre of decision-making to make every Canva journey more valuable and personal.
