Job Description

The Lead Technician is responsible for safely leading a team to assemble products to Wabtec’s quality standards. This role involves ensuring the team works effectively and efficiently, providing high-quality products and customer service to stakeholders. Key responsibilities include monitoring and maintaining safety procedures, driving customer satisfaction through product reliability, motivating the production team, leading continuous improvement activities, and developing and executing training plans for operators. The Lead Technician also troubleshoots operational problems and promotes a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and collaborative problem-solving.

  • Provide direction and support for an assigned hourly production team encompassing EHS, quality, material, process, and delivery
  • Motivate all employees on the production team to perform their duties using established procedures
  • Lead and support all continuous improvement activities
  • Ensure all company policies are followed
  • Work with Supervisor/ME to develop and execute training plans for all operators
  • Ensure operators are sufficiently cross trained to optimize resource usage safely and correctly
  • Communicate clearly with the work group and ensure follow-up on concerns are addressed in a timely manner
  • Troubleshoot and solve operation problems when identified
  • Promote culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and collaborate problem solving
  • Identify opportunities to increase employee engagement, motivation, and collaboration across work groups
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • 2+ years of assembly experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment
  • Possess the ability to use tools and equipment for assembly operations in an industrial setting
  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Able to work well with others to be a good team player
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes
  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues and create solutions
  • Basic shop math skills in all units of measuring
  • Ability to read and use gauges and measuring instruments
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while having a high degree of attention to detail
  • Knowledge of production/materials control system
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to influence, motivate, coach and drive accountability
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to read technical specifications
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

How will you make a difference?

The Lead Technician is responsible for safely leading a team to assemble products to Wabtec’s quality standards. The Lead is also responsible for ensuring that their team is working effectively and effectively, providing high quality products and customer service to Wabtec’s stakeholders.

  • Our job titles may span more than one career level. The hourly range for this role is between $20.00+ an hour.

The actual hourly rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, is available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include an annual bonus, if eligible.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Able to work 1st shift hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • 2+ years of assembly experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Must possess the ability to use tools and equipment that are needed to perform the assembly operations in an industrial setting.
  • Must have good listening and communication skills.
  • Able to work well with others to be a good team player.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Monitor and maintain safety procedures and conditions to prevent accidents and provide a safe workplace.
  • Drive customer satisfaction through detailed focus on product reliability. Provide direction and support for an assigned hourly production team encompassing EHS, quality, material, process, and delivery.
  • Help motivate all employees on the production team to perform their duties using established procedures to meet and exceed goals.
  • Lead and support all continuous improvement activities
  • Ensure all company policies are followed
  • Work with Supervisor/ME to develop and execute training plans for all operators to ensure they have the skills needed to do their jobs.
  • Ensure operators and sufficiently cross trained to optimize resource usage safely and correctly.
  • Communicate clearly with the work group. Ensure follow-up on concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot and solve operation problems when identified.
