Mulitmedia Journalist, WTMJ

WTMJ, the NBC affiliate in Milwaukee, WI, is seeking a dynamic multimedia journalist to research, write, capture visual content, and edit stories for multiple platforms. This role involves developing story ideas from news leads, gathering and verifying factual information through interviews and research, and organizing material according to editorial standards. The journalist will also shoot video and photos, edit content for multimedia platforms, and appear on TV in newscasts and special programming. They will collaborate with photographers and assist producers and online staff in preparing stories.

Must Have

• Research, write, capture visual content, and edit stories for multiple platforms
• Receive assignment or evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story ideas
• Gather and verify factual information through interview, observation, and research
• Organize material and write stories according to prescribed editorial style and format standards
• Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories
• Edit videos for all multimedia platforms
• Appear on TV in newscast and special programming
• Work cooperatively with assigned photographer
• Assist producer in preparing newscast
• Assist online staff in preparing for multimedia stories
• Generally, 3+ years of experience in related field
• Computer literacy, including newsroom computer systems
• Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
• Proficient at posting content to various websites
• Valid driver's license, good driving record, and proof of insurance

• BS/BA in related discipline
• Videography and non-linear editing experience
• Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment
• Ability to edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems or similar equipment

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Assist online staff in preparing for multimedia stories.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
• Generally, 3+ years of experience in related field preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

• Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems
• Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred
• Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment
• Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment

• Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company's required insurance limits.
