Job Summary

NewsNation is seeking a full-time Associate Director and Director for its New York Bureau. This role involves functioning in both capacities, requiring in-depth knowledge of broadcasting technology, collaborating with producers, leading on-air talent and crew, and adding creativity to newscasts. Responsibilities also include trafficking video/graphic elements, coordinating with Master Control, and managing show timing. The ideal candidate will have over five years of directing experience in live broadcast television.

Must Have

  • In-depth knowledge of studio and remote broadcasting technology.
  • Collaborate with newscast producers on content, tone, structure, and pace.
  • Lead on-air talent, technicians, stage crew, and floor directors.
  • Add creativity and ideas to enhance the final product.
  • Coordinate with News and Creative Services departments.
  • Traffic video and graphic elements in rundowns.
  • Cue video via Bit Central playout.
  • Coordinate with Master Control on break times.
  • Work closely with Line Producers on show and segment timing.
  • Five plus (5+) years’ directing experience in live broadcast television.
  • Work well in collaborative team environment, multitask, problem-solve.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Self-starter and takes initiative.
  • Availability for all day parts, weekends, and holidays; overtime as needed.
  • DGA union membership required.

Job Description

NewsNation is currently seeking a driven, experienced and pro-active full-time Associate Director and Director to join the team in our New York Bureau. In this role, you will function in two separate capacities: as an Associate Director and a Director.

The Associate Director and Director responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Must have in-depth knowledge of studio and remote broadcasting technology including steadicam and robotic cameras, servers and graphics systems. ENPS experience preferred.
  • The Director will collaborate with newscast producers to understand the content, tone, structure, and pace of newscasts.
  • Lead on-air talent, technicians, stage crew, and floor directors to execute a clean and dynamic show.
  • The Director should add creativity and bring ideas that enhance the final product, coordinating with the News and Creative Services departments to maximize the use of our studio and graphics elements.
  • The Associate Director will traffic video and graphic elements in rundowns and cue video via Bit Central playout.
  • Coordinate with Master Control by confirming break times, if breaks are killed for Breaking News.
  • Work closely with Line Producers on show and segment timing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by network leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Five plus (5+) years’ directing experience in professional live broadcast television required.
  • Must work well in a collaborative team environment, be able to multitask. A problem solver and quick thinker to troubleshoot existing issues and to find work arounds when needed.
  • Working knowledge of common business software applications, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be a self-starter and take initiative.
  • All day parts (mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) may be a part of the schedule with overtime as situations demand.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field preferred.
  • This is a DGA position and union membership is required.

Salary range (based on experience): $75-$95
