Plain is redefining customer support for the next generation of B2B companies. We’re building the fastest, most powerful platform to help companies move beyond reactive support and build true customer relationships.
Some of the world’s most forward-thinking companies, like Cursor, Ashby, and Sanity, trust Plain to unify all customer interactions, enable faster team collaboration, and supercharge their workflows with AI.
We’re a small, tight-knit crew with offices in SF and London. This role is hybrid with 3 days a week in our SF office. Because we work closely with our teammates in Europe, we start early (around 7am, with plenty of coffee!), but you’ll find quiet afternoons for heads-down work.
Why this role is special
This is an incredible opportunity to learn how a high-growth startup operates from the inside out. You’ll work side-by-side with our Head of Operations (Youmna) and collaborate across every function, from finance and talent to product and GTM, to make sure everything at Plain runs smoothly.
You’ll get exposure to how the company scales, take ownership of projects that make a real impact, and learn the fundamentals of building systems and processes that keep a fast-moving company aligned.
As Plain grows, so will your role - You’ll gain exposure to every part of the business and have the freedom to shape your own growth, whether it’s deepening expertise in a specific domain or stepping into broader operational role.
What you'll do
Work closely with our Head of Operations (Youmna) and partner closely across all functions, including finance, talent, product, and GTM to ensure things just *work*. You’ll be the glue that holds processes, and projects together. This includes:
- Support people operations. Help run onboarding and offboarding, keep our company-wide Notion organized and up-to-date, and coordinate logistics for offsites and team events.
- Manage internal systems and process. Maintain internal documentation and help standardize data and tools across the company. Support compliance efforts like SOC2 and GDPR by tracking deadlines, collecting vendor documentation, and drafting policy docs.
- Drive strategic projects. Contribute to projects that improve how Plain operates - from researching new tools to improving benefits, or automating workflows that create more company-wide visibility.
- Support revenue operations. Help monitor self-serve revenue, track invoices, and maintain dashboards that show how the company is performing. Work closely with the finance team to keep things accurate and automated.
This is a great fit if you…
We’re looking for someone who has a few years in either an early-stage start-up, management consulting, or VC background that is looking to dive into a high-impact, generalist role:
- Have 1–3 years in business operations or an adjacent role (Founder’s Associate, management consulting, VC).
- Are commercially minded and product curious. You’re drawn to how the business grows and how the product works. You want to connect day-to-day operational decisions to customer experience and business growth.
- Are naturally process-oriented and efficiency driven. You love finding new ways to work faster and eliminate manual tasks - whether it’s a Zapier workflow or a sharper Notion template.
- Have high ownership. You notice how things connect, take pride in keeping projects on track and staying detail-oriented.
- Are a clear, fast communicator. You write and speak with clarity and purpose - from Notion docs to individual Slack threads. Your goal is to make sure everyone is aligned, fast, and focused.
- Are relentlessly curious. You love figuring things out from scratch, asking great questions, and learning fast in areas you’ve never worked in before.
This won't be the right role if you…
- Want to specialize immediately - this is a broad, generalist role where you’ll touch people ops, finance, compliance, and culture before focusing on a niche.
- Are uncomfortable switching contexts - your day might span a budget review, an onboarding checklist, and a new tool rollout.
- Don’t enjoy fast-paced and proactive communication - most conversations happen in calls, as well as Slack and Notion
- Need everything figured out - you’ll have support, but success in this role is to be highly self-driven and use good judgment in ambiguous situations.
- Aren’t interested in working in person - this role is based in SF, and we work together in the office at least 3 days a week. You’ll also likely attend in-person meetings and build relationships face-to-face when it counts.
