Job Summary
This summer internship for a Repair Operations Industrial Engineer at Motorola Solutions focuses on improving efficiency, increasing output, and decreasing errors within the Federal Technical Center (FTC) Repair Organization. The intern will apply Lean Manufacturing practices and data analytic skills, identify continuous improvement opportunities, and participate in cross-functional meetings to enhance end-to-end repair processes for critical communication systems.
Must Have
- Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or related field
- Graduation date no later than Dec. 2029
- Ability to apply Lean Manufacturing tools such as Kaizen, 5S, Continuous flow, Standardized work, Takt time
- Basic Excel analytic skills including Trend analysis
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities in device repair efficiencies and work order management
- Participate in cross functional meetings with engineering, supply, customer care and repair operations personnel

The Federal Technical Center (FTC) Repair Organization is fully dedicated to providing world-class subscriber service to the U.S. Federal, State, and Local Government agencies along with the commercial customer base.
Forming an integral part of a global Supply Chain Operations, Repair Operations ensures customer’s equipment remains functional throughout the product’s lifecycle. By repairing broken units, upgrading aged units or providing preventative maintenance, the repair operations organization is a crucial component in Motorola Solution’s ability to deliver the best product.
The FTC Repair Organization is responsible to not only execute quality repairs for our customers but also to ensure that we continue to find opportunities to support new product lines, and internal process efficiencies for our internal repair operation.
Job Description
Repair Operations Industrial Engineer: Repair Service Centers operate on a time crunch. Customers send in broken equipment and expect fast turnaround times to get their equipment repaired. With the use of Lean Manufacturing practices and data analytic skills, your goal will be to drive efficiency, increase output and decrease errors at the Repair Service Centers.
Responsibilities may include:
- Lean Manufacturing tools such as: Kaizen, 5S, Continuous flow, Standardized work, Takt time
- Basic Excel analytic skills (Trend analysis)
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities in device repair efficiencies and work order management
- Participate in cross functional meetings with engineering, supply, customer care and repair operations personnel to derive decisions and improvements towards end to end repair processes.
Candidates must apply good communication and interpersonal skills toward solving problems in a team environment. You will gain understanding of Motorola communication systems and how they are utilized by emergency responder organizations throughout the world and repaired when not meeting the advertised performance.
