Job Summary
KDVR/KWGN is seeking a high-energy, full-time news reporter to cover significant breaking stories, particularly within state, federal, and local government in Denver. The ideal candidate excels at delivering hard news on television and digital platforms, developing exclusive sources, and generating original story ideas. This role requires a team player who can ad-lib live, connect with viewers, and maintain professionalism while executing the station's breaking news brand.
Must Have
- Develop exclusive contacts and a network of news sources, especially within state and local government
- Accurate and fair reporting of news stories
- Active participation in editorial meetings; come prepared with multiple original story ideas
- Ability to ad-lib live breaking news by telling a compelling story and interact with anchors
- Work with photographers, producers, and assignment editors in story development
- Regularly update the newsroom on story elements and progress
- B.A. or B.S. degree, preferably in journalism, communications or equivalent related experience
- 3-5 years of experience reporting in a medium or large market
- Strong on-air presentation (credible, personable, and engaging)
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to accept constructive direction and feedback
- Flexibility with schedule, including additional hours, different shifts, and holidays
- Positive, solution-oriented attitude and team player
- Ability to perform duties and make decisions under pressure

Job Description
KDVR/KWGN seeks a high-energy, full-time news reporter hungry to own the big story. Denver is home to Colorado’s state Capitol and has a large federal footprint. This position is focused on breaking stories within state, federal and local government. An ideal candidate thrives on telling breaking and hard news stories on television and digital platforms. They find enterprise stories through the development of sources and contacts.
We want a team player who can ad-lib with ease and go live in sometimes difficult conditions.
KDVR/KWGN is a leading news organization, and we want leaders and doers who can think for themselves while executing our breaking news/hard news brand. Candidates need to be able to connect with viewers, receive feedback and model professionalism on and off air.
Responsibilities:
- Develop exclusive contacts and a network of news sources, especially within state and local government.
- Accurate and fair reporting of news stories.
- Be an active participant in editorial meetings; Come prepared with multiple original story ideas.
- Must be able to ad-lib live breaking news by telling a compelling story and have a strong ability to interact with anchors.
- Works with photographers, producers and assignment editors in development of a story.
- Regularly update the newsroom on story elements and progress.
- Participate in station-related community events.
- Support positive newsroom culture. Collaborate and foster an environment of integrity.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- B.A. or B.S. degree, preferably in journalism, communications or equivalent related experience.
- 3-5 years of experience reporting in a medium or large market.
- Strong on-air presentation. Must be credible, personable and engaging.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail.
- Must be able to accept constructive direction and feedback.
- In line with reporting duties, must be flexible with schedule and be willing to work additional hours or days or different shifts and holidays.

Compensation:
- $75-85k based on experience
