Job Description

The Senior 3D Character Artist will collaborate closely with concept designers to create high-quality, vibrant hand-painted models according to game design documents and art style guides, ensuring characters meet in-game performance expectations. They will also work with animators and TAs to ensure models meet animation and engine technical requirements, actively identifying and resolving issues in production, asset management, and testing. The role involves optimizing existing processes, improving efficiency and game quality, and managing outsourcing quality and efficiency. Continuous optimization of character assets for performance in casual simulation games is also key, along with staying updated on industry software and techniques.
Must have:
  • Independently complete high-quality, vibrant hand-painted models based on design documents and art style guides.
  • Collaborate with animators and TAs to ensure character models meet animation and engine technical requirements.
  • Actively discover and solve technical and artistic problems in character production, asset management, and version testing.
  • Continuously optimize existing processes to improve production capacity and game quality.
  • Collaborate with outsourcing and business teams to control the quality and efficiency of character model outsourcing.
  • Continuously optimize character assets and control performance to achieve the best results in casual simulation games.
  • Proficient in mainstream 3D modeling software (Max, Maya, ZBrush, Blender) and PBR/NPR processes.
  • Proficient in texture painting software (Substance Painter, Photoshop) for high-quality texture drawing.
  • Familiar with topology, UV unwrapping, normal baking, and experience in optimizing model wireframes and polygon counts.
  • Deep understanding of human anatomy and structure to accurately express character forms and features.
  • Experience with hand-painted textures or skilled in cartoon rendering style, with deep understanding of casual simulation game styles.
  • Familiar with character asset import, material settings, and rendering processes in game engines (Unity, Unreal Engine).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of independently tackling technical and artistic challenges.
  • Good communication skills, actively collaborating with team members to find optimal solutions.
  • Passion for work, high sense of responsibility, and self-motivation, actively learning new knowledge and tools.
  • Strong logical thinking ability and keenness in process management.
  • Experience in coordinating outsourcing and team management.
  • Bachelor's degree or above in art, animation, or a related major.
  • 3+ years of 3D character production experience in the game industry.

Job Requirements

1. Professional Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in mainstream 3D modeling software (e.g., Max, Maya, ZBrush, Blender), skilled in using PBR/NPR processes for character production.
  • Proficient in texture painting software (e.g., Substance Painter, Photoshop), capable of independently completing high-quality texture drawing.
  • Familiar with topology, UV unwrapping, normal baking techniques, and experienced in optimizing model wireframes and polygon counts.
  • Deep understanding of human anatomy and structure, capable of accurately expressing character forms and features.
  • Experience with hand-painted textures or skilled in cartoon rendering style, with a deep understanding and expressive ability in cartoon or Q-version styles for casual simulation and cultivation games.
  • Familiar with character asset import, material settings, and rendering processes in game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine).

  • Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of independently facing and overcoming technical and artistic challenges.
