Crytek is seeking a Senior Character Artist for their Hunt: Showdown game in Frankfurt, Germany. Responsibilities include creating high-quality, real-time characters from concept to game-ready, collaborating with art and animation teams, and supporting outsourcing integration. The role requires expert knowledge of character art workflows, strong sculpting skills, proficiency in ZBrush, Substance Painter, Marvelous Designer, and Maya/3ds Max/Blender. The artist must be able to create optimized, game-ready assets with clean topology and efficient UV layouts, and possess a keen eye for detail and realism. Experience with external outsourcing and mentoring junior artists is also valued.
Must have:

Crytek is looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Character Artist to work on Hunt: Showdown in our new state-of-the-art office in Frankfurt, Germany.


Responsibilities

    • Create high quality, real-time characters and character props from concept to game-ready. 
    • Work closely with Character Art Lead, Tech Art, Concept, and Animation to ensure character fidelity and function.
    • Support outsourcing integration by reviewing external assets, offering structured feedback, and helping maintain consistent quality. 
    • Be proactive, self-motivated and be able to work without direct supervision.   

Requirements

    • 5+ years of experience as a Character Artist in games.
    • Expert knowledge of character art workflows, from sculpting to final in-engine implementation. 
    • Deep understanding of anatomy and how to represent it effectively in topology. 
    • Strong sculpting skills, especially in facial anatomy, with knowledge of facial animation requirements. 
    • Proficient in ZBrush, Substance Painter, Marvelous Designer, and at least one major DCC (Maya, 3ds Max, or Blender). 
    • Ability to translate concept art into realistic, grounded characters that fit the world of Hunt: Showdown 1896. 
    • Ability to deliver optimized, game-ready assets with clean topology, efficient UV layouts, and attention to technical constraints. 
    • Experience collaborating or supporting external outsourcing teams as part of a production pipeline. 
    • Strong eye for detail and realism. 
    • Collaborative mindset with a proactive, problem-solving attitude. 
    • Able to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain high standards without direct supervision. 
    • Solid understanding of real-time game engines and technical requirements for implementation. 
    • Willingness and ability to mentor and support junior and mid-level artists, contributing to the team's growth and sharing of knowledge. 
    • Fluency in English, written and spoken. 
    • Relocation to Frankfurt

We are looking for a portfolio that demonstrates

    • Heavy focus on character art for real-time games 
    • Proficiency in high and low poly character work 
    • Proficiency in texturing with PBR workflows, reproducing realistic material properties (skin, fabric, leather, metal, etc.) 
    • Strong technical skills (clean topology, baking, UVs, optimization, skinning-friendly modelling) 
    • Strong artistic skills (anatomy, proportions, silhouettes, facial structure, cloth behaviour) 
    • Keen eye for detail and realism, both in sculpting and material work 
    • Experience with both organic and non-organic elements (e.g. faces, human anatomy, creatures, props, armour) 
    • Consistency and quality across the entire character pipeline, from sculpt to final textured asset
