Job Summary

J.S. Held is seeking a Senior Consultant for its Construction Advisory Practice. This role involves advising clients on complex construction matters, focusing on claims and dispute resolution, delay analysis, project advisory, cost analysis, and scheduling. The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering or construction, with experience in contract management, change orders, critical path scheduling, and damage quantification. Responsibilities include reviewing project changes, schedules, and costs, preparing expert reports, and leading small teams on engagements.

Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical) or Construction Management
  • 4+ years experience with engineering or construction firms or construction claim/dispute firm
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, Adobe, or other PDF management software
  • Experience with scheduling software (Microsoft Project or Primavera Products)
  • Knowledge or experience with contract and/or change order management
  • Experience in critical path scheduling analysis
  • Ability to prepare change orders or claims
  • Experience in cost analysis and quantification of damages
  • Ability to review drawings and specifications
  • Analytical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to lead small teams on engagements
  • Capability to produce work products, draft memos, presentations, and reports
  • Ability to travel as needed to project sites and client offices
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position during work shift
  • Must be able to travel both in the United States and internationally

Construction Advisory Practice

Our Construction Advisory Practice consists of engineering and construction professionals with practical industry experience, who have advised on an extensive range of projects across multiple industry sectors in domestic and international contexts. Most of our professionals are either civil, mechanical, electrical or chemical engineers, quantity surveyors, or architects by training and background, many of whom have supplemented their technical disciplines with further commercial qualifications, including construction and contracts management, international arbitration and dispute resolution, finance and construction law.

Job Description

J.S. Held is actively seeking a Senior Consultant to be a part of our team in the Construction Advisory Practice who is looking to continue to grow a career in engineering and construction focusing on claims and dispute resolution, delay analysis, project advisory services, construction cost analysis and controls, construction planning and scheduling.

This position is for a professional who has knowledge or experience with contract and/or change order management, critical path scheduling analysis, preparation of change orders or claims, cost analysis and quantification of damages, review of drawings and specifications, and other engineering and construction-related documents. Prior experience on active engineering or construction projects is highly preferred OR experience in claims and dispute resolution, delay analysis, project advisory services, construction cost analysis and controls, construction planning and scheduling.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review and assess project change orders, including scope, costs, and schedules
  • Review and analysis of project schedules, including delay analysis
  • Loss of productivity and inefficiency analysis
  • Calculation of damages including increased material, labor costs, or additional subcontractor costs
  • Analysis of extended general conditions and other time-related costs
  • Review and interpretation of drawings and specifications
  • Assist in preparation of expert reports and presentations
  • Able to lead small teams or professionals on engagements
  • Produce work products, draft memos, presentations, and reports
  • Travel as needed to project sites and client offices

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with disciplines such as Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, etc. or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management.
  • 4+ years experience with engineering or construction firms OR construction claim/dispute firm
  • Microsoft Office - Advanced skills preferred, especially in Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
  • Bluebeam, Adobe, or other PDF management software
  • Scheduling software - Microsoft Project or Primavera Products
  • Position requires that you come into the designated office on a hybrid schedule.
  • Analytical aptitudes and attention to detail
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Estimating experience preferred but not necessary
  • Capability to develop Power BI Dashboards preferred

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $95k - $120k. Any offered salary range is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
