Job Description

Motorola Solutions is seeking a Senior Design for Excellence (DFX) Engineer to optimize new products for efficient and cost-effective production. This lead role focuses on embedding DFMA principles into the new product introduction process, driving quality and productivity improvements from the start. The engineer will bridge design, manufacturing, and supply chain, ensuring products are functional, easy to build, high quality, and low cost, while collaborating with EMS and implementing process innovations.
Must Have:
  • Lead DFMA initiatives, focusing on Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Collaborate with and develop EMS to establish best-in-class manufacturing processes.
  • Continuously seek and implement new manufacturing processes and technological breakthroughs.
  • Achieve company goals for productivity, timely delivery, and cost-efficiency.
  • Serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert for cross-functional teams.
  • Possess a Master’s / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Demonstrate expertise in DFMA methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of various manufacturing processes (e.g., Ultrasonic Welding, Heat stake, Resistance welding, Laser welding, sheetmetal fabrication).
  • Ability to identify and propose solutions for manufacturing and assembly issues early in the design phase.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
  • Proven track record of achieving measurable improvements in quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Willingness to work at Bayan Lepas, Penang.

The NPI DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) Engineer at Motorola Solutions is a lead role focused on optimizing new products for efficient and cost-effective production. This is more than just a design review position; it's a strategic role that drives quality and productivity improvements from the very beginning of the product lifecycle. The successful candidate will be the bridge between design, manufacturing, and supply chain, ensuring that products are not only functional but also easy to build, with the highest quality and at the lowest possible cost.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Lead DFMA Initiatives: Spearhead efforts to embed DFMA principles into the new product introduction process, focusing on both Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Supplier Development: Collaborate with and develop EMS to establish and maintain best-in-class manufacturing processes. This includes auditing their capabilities and guiding them to meet MSI's quality and productivity standards.
  • Process Innovation: Continuously seek out and implement new manufacturing processes and technological breakthroughs to improve product quality, increase productivity, and reduce costs.
  • Cost & Productivity Management: This role is pivotal in achieving the company's goals for productivity, timely delivery, and cost-efficiency. The engineer will be directly responsible for identifying and implementing cost-saving measures without compromising on quality or performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert, working closely with design engineers, supply chain managers, and quality assurance teams to ensure a seamless transition from design to mass production.

Basic Requirements

Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess at least a Master’s / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Expertise in DFMA: Deep knowledge and practical experience in applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) methodologies. This includes a strong understanding of how design choices impact manufacturing complexity, cost, and quality.
  • Manufacturing Acumen: A solid understanding of various manufacturing processes (e.g., Ultrasonic Welding, Heat stake, Resistance welding, Laser welding, sheetmetal fabrication) and the ability to evaluate a supplier's production capabilities.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to identify potential manufacturing and assembly issues early in the design phase and propose innovative, practical solutions.
  • Leadership and Influence: As a lead engineer, the candidate must be able to influence cross-functional teams and external suppliers to adopt best practices and drive process improvements.
  • Results-Oriented Mindset: A proven track record of achieving measurable improvements in quality, productivity, and cost in a manufacturing or NPI environment.
  • Willing to work at Bayan Lepas, Penang
