Job Description

Description

We want you to #JOINTHEREBELLION!

For 30 years we’ve been independently developing and publishing incredible video games at our multiple studios founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior DevOps Engineer contractor to join our code department to become the DevOps specialist within a small team.

As the Senior DevOps Engineer, you will be solely responsible for designing and maintaining the infrastructure, implementing automation frameworks, establishing robust CI/CD pipelines, and optimizing performance and security measures. Your expertise will be crucial in driving our game development workflows, ensuring reliability, scalability, and efficiency. You will be the sole DevOps engineer in a small team so this is a good opportunity to take ownership of this function and grow your expertise!

This exciting opportunity can be based out of either of our studios in Oxford or Warwick, offering flexibility, collaboration, and the chance to work with a world-class team! We can also offer this as a fully remote role.

Key Outcomes and Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Optimisation – Analyse and reduce cloud costs, explore alternative infrastructure options, and provide detailed cost estimates based on CCU.
  • Infrastructure Extension – Design, implement and document robust deployment pipelines and automation to streamline project creation and environment provisioning.
  • Infrastructure Documentation – Produce clear, actionable documentation for bringing infrastructure up/down on demand and ensuring team self-sufficiency.
  • Security & Compliance Review – Audit PII handling, security roles and access policies to ensure full compliance and data protection compliance.
  • Load & Performance Testing – Build automated load test suites and provide transparent reporting on system performance and coverage.
  • Cloud Migration – Develop IaC for a critical custom application pipeline to migrate to a different cloud private with autoscaling and failover capabilities.
  • Scenario & Disaster Recovery Planning – Define production incident scenarios, disaster recovery strategies, and cross-provider failover options.

Requirements

  • Proven experience building, maintaining, and documenting high-quality IaC pipelines to support multiple environments and concurrent projects — across both Azure and AWS (experience with Pulumi is a plus).
  • Strong version control experience with GitHub; familiarity with other systems such as Perforce is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated success overseeing the migration of critical production applications between cloud providers with zero downtime.
  • Deep understanding of data compliance requirements, including GDPR and other international regulations governing personally identifiable information (PII).
  • Hands-on experience with automated, on-demand load testing at scale.
  • Skilled in scenario planning and developing comprehensive disaster recovery (DR) plans to ensure system resilience and business continuity.
