Collaboration and documentation are also key aspects of this role.

Position Overview

Autodesk is a global leader in design and make technology, providing innovative solutions to help our customers achieve their goals. We are seeking an experienced Hybrid Compute Engineer with DevOps expertise to join our team and help manage, transform, and implement our hybrid compute strategy. Our infrastructure includes several Data Centers and Colocation Compute centers across the globe, and we are committed to expanding our cloud offerings and modernizing our physical footprint.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Hybrid Compute Strategy: Design, coordinate, and implement the future growth of our hybrid compute infrastructure. This includes assessing current infrastructure, identifying areas for improvement, and developing a comprehensive strategy to enhance our hybrid compute capabilities. Collaborate with global staff members to ensure seamless integration and implementation of the strategy
  • Migration and Implementation: Lead the migration from VMware to Linux KVM (OLVM by Oracle). This involves planning and executing the migration process, ensuring minimal disruption to operations, and implementing tools to rapidly deploy new VM environments. Provide training and support to staff members to ensure a smooth transition
  • Evaluation and Optimization: Conduct thorough evaluations of compute environments using both homegrown and pre-built utilities. Identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement, and design additional features to expand these tools as needed. Continuously monitor and optimize compute environments to ensure peak performance and reliability
  • Cloud Transformation: Spearhead the transformation of on-prem Data Centers to public cloud environments (AWS, Azure) and new Data Center environments. Develop and implement a detailed plan for cloud migration, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management. Ensure that the transformation aligns with the company's overall strategic goals
  • Apple OS Expertise: Utilize deep knowledge of Apple OS and its configuration for remote use or cloud virtualization in AWS. Facilitate the move from Physical Data Centers to Mac in the cloud powered by AWS, leveraging knowledge of Jamf. Provide expertise and support in configuring and managing Apple OS environments to ensure optimal performance and security
  • Automation: Automate BIOS, OS, and firmware patching to transform the environment into a CI/CD DevOps style setup. Develop and implement automation scripts and tools to streamline patching processes, reduce manual intervention, and ensure consistent and reliable updates
  • Project Management: Implement project plans and actions to enable our cloud migration strategy and Data Center reconfigurations. This includes defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables, developing detailed project plans, and managing project timelines and budgets. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution and delivery
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other team members, departments, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and collaboration on projects and initiatives. Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to provide updates, gather feedback, and address any concerns or issues
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of all processes, configurations, and changes. Prepare regular reports on project progress, system performance, and other relevant metrics. Ensure that documentation and reports are clear, accurate, and up-to-date

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience with AWS/Azure preferably with transformative experience migrating from on premises to cloud
  • Coding Skills: At least 5 years of coding experience in Bash, PowerShell, Python, or other comparable languages
  • Collaboration: Strong willingness to work with others and a desire to optimize compute environments as needed
  • Apple OS Knowledge: Deep understanding of Apple OS, its configuration, and requirements for remote use or cloud virtualization in AWS. Knowledge of Jamf is highly valued
  • Automation Skills: Experience in automating BIOS, OS, and firmware patching
  • Project Management: Proven ability to implement project plans and actions for cloud migration and Data Center reconfigurations

  • Operating Systems: Windows 2008 - Current, Linux (Red Hat, Oracle, Debian), Apple OS (BSD), VMware, Linux KVM
  • Coding Languages: Python, Bash, PowerShell, Groovy (Jenkins)
  • DevOps/Software Tools: Jenkins, Jamf, Jira, Wolken, Atlassian Confluence, GitHub, Microsoft Office Suite, Entra, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, MS Project, Lucid Chart, Draw.io, Citrix
