Must Have
- 12+ years of hands-on software development experience with Java, Python, Node.js, or Scala.

- Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, RDBMS/NoSQL databases, ElasticSearch, Docker, Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with frontend frameworks (ReactJS, Angular) and mobile app ecosystems (iOS/Android).
- Minimum 5 years of engineering management experience, leading multi-tier teams.
- Strong track record of growing teams, enhancing delivery efficiency, and fostering an inclusive team culture.
- Proficient in Agile methodologies, iterative delivery, and project management.
- Skilled in crafting and implementing CI/CD pipelines, monitoring systems, and release automation.
- Outstanding communication and decision-making skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related technical field.

In this role, you'll support experienced engineers in developing scalable, resilient, and impactful applications that power one of the world's largest online marketplaces. You'll drive architectural vision, enable technical excellence, and foster a culture of ownership, inclusion, and continuous learning — contributing to the evolution of global commerce at eBay.
What You’ll Do
- Lead Engineering Execution: Supervise and guide a cross-functional team of backend, frontend, full-stack, and mobile engineers at different levels, promoting a culture of innovation, accountability, and technical excellence.
- Drive Architecture and Development: Develop and evolve scalable, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems that serve millions of daily users globally.
- Lead all aspects of End-to-End Delivery: Coordinate the full software lifecycle — from concept and development through implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing site reliability.
- Technical Direction: Steer the team's technical vision, demonstrating proficiency in backend technologies (Java, Python, Node.js), microservices, APIs, and modern web and mobile frameworks.
- Advocate for Quality and Security: Embed guidelines for code quality, observability, performance, and security throughout the development and release process.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with product management, compose, payments, and platform teams to align technology strategies with eBay’s business objectives.
- Operational Excellence: Roll out CI/CD pipelines, conduct production readiness assessments, and sustain high service uptime for our perpetually available global platform.
- Drive adoption of new technologies to improve developer efficiency and product velocity.
- Mentor and Develop Talent: Coach engineers and engineering managers, offering mentorship on career development, technical growth, and effective cross-team collaboration.
What You’ll Bring
- Extensive Technical Background: 12+ years of hands-on software development experience constructing large-scale, high-volume systems using Java, Python, Node.js, or Scala. Proven success crafting and delivering microservices and event-driven architectures in cloud-based environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Deep understanding of RESTful APIs, RDBMS/NoSQL databases, ElasticSearch, and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes). Familiarity with frontend frameworks (ReactJS, Angular, or equivalent) and mobile app ecosystems (iOS/Android).
- Leadership Experience: Minimum 5 years of engineering management experience, leading multi-tier teams with engineers across backend, frontend, and mobile subject areas. Strong track record of growing teams, enhancing delivery efficiency, and fostering a healthy, inclusive team culture. Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical leadership with strategic organizational mentorship.
- Domain Expertise: Experience in Payments, Financial Services, or related transaction-heavy systems preferred. Understanding of security, compliance, and regulatory standards within financial or commerce platforms.
- Operational & Agile Proficiency: Proficient in Agile methodologies, iterative delivery, and project management within complex product ecosystems. Skilled in crafting and implementing CI/CD pipelines, monitoring systems, and release automation frameworks.
- Soft Skills and Leadership Qualities: Outstanding communication and decision-making skills; capable of influencing technical and non-technical collaborators alike. Strong sense of ownership, resilience, and adaptability — embracing challenges and differences to get results. Passionate about mentoring and enabling others to reach their full potential, including distributed and remote teams.
