Job Summary
SMG is seeking a Senior Tech Artist to join their experienced team, focusing on rendering, tools, asset pipelines, and visual creative wizardry for high-profile and original IP game projects. The role involves collaborating with directors, artists, and designers to achieve visual polish, improving asset pipelines, developing bespoke shaders, optimizing art assets and rendering, and creating technical documentation. The ideal candidate will apply expertise in Unity and URP best practices across multiple platforms, contribute to game design, and mentor junior team members.
Must Have
- Collaborate with directors, artists, and designers to bring visual polish and push creative vision
- Improve, maintain, and add to tools and asset pipelines
- Develop bespoke shaders and solutions on a per-need basis
- Develop and improve optimisations in art assets and rendering processes
- Create and maintain technical documentation for projects tools and processes
- Apply expertise in Unity and URP best practices to rendering and optimisation
- Peer-review code as needed
- Participate in game design and concept meetings and contribute ideas
- Collaborate with core development team on game systems
- Be fully competent in C# coding standards and uphold code quality
- Use a working knowledge of 3D tools such as Maya, Blender
- Senior level Unity shader knowledge, specifically with URP
- Senior level C# coding
- Advanced understanding of rendering architecture, pitfalls, and bottlenecks
- General expertise in Unity
- Experience working with a team on commercially released games
- Ability to work remotely with our team in Sydney/Brisbane/Melbourne
- A +- 3hrs with SYDNEY timezone

SMG is looking for a senior tech artist to join our experienced team and jump head first into all things rendering, tools, asset pipelines, and visual creative wizardry.
You'll work as a team on larger game projects and help deliver projects to completion. Role starts in Q1-Q2 2026 we can be flexible with the start date.
Our games: LEGO Party!, Moving Out 1 & 2, SP!NG, No Way Home, RISK, Death Squared and more
You will have the opportunity to work on high-profile IP as well as original IP.
You would be joining an existing tech art team and working in tandem to improve existing systems, as well as opportunities to bring new ideas and solutions to the mix.
We’re working on another high profile family console title that will entertain, excite and make millions of people laugh. Your contributions both technical and creative will be crucial to pushing the bounds of what we can deliver on screen.

What you will do:
- Collaborate with directors, artists, and designers to bring visual polish and push the extents of the team’s creative vision
- Improve, maintain, and add to tools and asset pipelines that enhance our efficiency and and workflows
- Develop bespoke shaders and solutions on a per-need basis, when a core shader or system doesn’t support an approach
- Develop and improve optimisations in art assets and rendering processes
- Create and maintain technical documentation for the projects tools and processes
- Apply expertise in Unity and URP best practices to rendering and optimisation across multiple platforms with different requirements
- Peer-review code as needed
- Participate in game design and concept meetings and contribute with concerns and ideas surrounding the technical art approaches and limitations that may arise
- Collaborate with core development team with respect to game systems that connect to rendering, VFX, animation, and other art related areas
- Be fully competent in C# coding standards and uphold code quality across the wider tech art systems, tools, and solutions
- Use a working knowledge of 3D tools such as Maya, Blender etc to contribute to basic models, edits, and refinements of game assets
- Mentor junior team members
Requirements:
- Senior level Unity shader knowledge, specifically with URP
- Senior level C# coding
- Advanced understanding of rendering architecture, pitfalls, and bottlenecks
- Highly collaborative

- Keen sense of humor
- General expertise in Unity
- Experience working with a team on commercially released games

We're a tight and experienced team of 60 from all around the world from Russia, Finland, Mexico, Brazil, France, Italy, UK, USA, Germany and even NZ! We’ve shipped 12 titles, won multiple awards and are proud of our long tenure with 12 people serving over 10+ years with the team. We also have more parents in the team than people aged <25 and embrace flexibility to help people spend time with their kids & family.
