Job Description

ByteDance seeks a Technical Program Manager (TPM) for its network engineering team in Mountain View, Seattle, or Ashburn. The TPM will bridge public cloud vendors and internal teams, driving end-to-end delivery of new products and features. Responsibilities include managing complex programs, creating roadmaps, defining processes, improving collaboration, and allocating resources. The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational and interpersonal skills, understands public clouds, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Experience with Agile methodologies, multi-cultural teams and excellent communication is crucial. The role involves close collaboration with engineering, service owners, and cross-functional teams.
Must have:
  • 3+ years network project delivery or technical leadership
  • Public cloud understanding (switches, routers, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience in dynamic, fast-paced environments
  • Manage complex programs and create roadmaps
Good to have:
  • Strong understanding of Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI)
  • Colocation, Datacenter, Carrier Hotel knowledge
  • Cross-Connects, Peering Circuits, Structured Cabling expertise
  • Switching and Routing understanding, Optical Transceivers
  • Dashboards and Monitoring tools experience
  • Experience with Colocation Vendors
  • Ability to read Engineering schematics and Network Diagrams

Join us. --- About the team ByteDance Networking brings together innovative ideas and technologies from network architecture, software defined networking (SDN), network virtualization, switch software and hardware co-design, and high-speed networking, to create hyperscale data-center networking solutions that power several of the most popular apps of the world such as Douyin and TikTok which serve hundreds of millions of users around the globe. ByteDance Networking is responsible for designing, building, and operating the global, intelligent network infrastructure to meet the requirements of high availability, scalability, and high-performance. By joining this team, you will gain marketable software development and/or network operation experiences in data center networking at massive scale. We are seeking a Technical Program Manager to join our network engineering team based in Mountain View, Seattle or Ashburn. You'll drive the end-to-end delivery of the systems behind ByteDance and work with various team members to inspire creativity and bring joy to users around the globe. Responsibilities: • As a TPM, you’ll be the bridge between various public cloud vendors, internal teams across countries, working closely with people from Product, Engineering and various ByteDance teams, driving the end-to-end delivery of new products and features to market, inspiring creativity and bring joy to our users around the globe. • Manage a variety of complex, cross-functional programs and lead all aspects of assigned programs delivery. • Create and maintain the Roadmap for the teams you work closely with, along with the respective Tech and Product leaders. • Define the way of driving these programs and constantly find ways of improving this process in a data-driven manner. You'll be the owner of the collaboration process and tools. • Embrace ByteDance culture and principles and promote an environment that embodies ByteDance Principle and Values. • Program/Project Management Responsibilities including but not limited to: - Allocating resources efficiently - Communicating with stakeholders - Collaborating with Engineering, Service Owners, and other XFN Teams - Creating Project Schedules, resourcing plans and defining Milestones. Prepare the project schedule, define the milestones; - Track tasks and report progress, creating and utilizing dashboards, identifying and mitigating risks.Track and report progress, identify and mitigate risks, removing blockers; - Lead Agile/Scrum teams as a coach or scrum master.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: - BA/BS degree or above with 3+ years of network project delivery or technical leadership background, plus strong organizational and interpersonal skills, will enable you to succeed in ByteDance's fast paced environment. - Good understanding of public clouds, including but not limited to switches, routers, fast connect / direct connect - An understanding of Agile is desirable but not essential, more important than your specific skillset is your ‘can do’ attitude and willingness not to be constrained by your job description. - Effective communication skills to handle comms to teams, management and cross functional stakeholders at all levels, and a proven track record of getting things done/shipping projects. - Experience working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment where self-motivated, autonomy and self-decision making is needed (to an extent) and juggle between multi projects/tasks. - Experience working in multi-time zones, multi-culture is preferred - Passionate about the Internet industry and willing to grow with the company in the process of learning by dealing with emerging global issues and challenges. Preferred Qualifications: - Strong understanding of Cloud Computing platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI) - Strong understanding of Colocations, Datacenters and Carrier Hotels - Strong understanding of Cross-Connects, Peering Circuits, and Structured Cabling - Ability to communciate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively across teams - Direct experience with one of the major Cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI) - Switching and Routing understanding along with Optical Transceivers - Dashboards and Monitoring tools experience - Direct Experience working with Colocation Vendors - Ability to read Engineering schematics and Network Diagrams --- ByteDance is committed to creating an inclusive space where employees are valued for their skills, experiences, and unique perspectives.
