Job Description

This role is central to our fleet development, focusing on the integration, testing, and optimization of advanced systems for intelligent mobility. It involves leading hands-on engineering to ensure autonomous test vehicles are fully operational for real-world validation, spanning hardware, software, and cross-functional collaboration to drive innovations in autonomous driving.

Must Have:
  • Conduct log analyses to identify issues and recommend solutions.
  • Verify proposed solutions accurately address problems without impacting other functionalities.
  • Review functional tests and add cases to ensure issues are fully understood.
  • Review results to determine root causes of testing errors and debug.
  • Identify test requirements with minimal oversight.
  • Participate in project reviews, providing feedback on testing problems.
  • Display expertise for different system features.
  • Collect information and identify patterns/trends in systems testing.
  • Review performance tests and add cases for thorough analysis.
  • Mentor Engineers and Senior Engineers on complex features, systems, testing strategies, and automation.
  • Address general technical issues, escalating only highly complex ones.
  • Determine if issues should be tested in the field or lab, ensuring all scenarios are covered.
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure accurate testing plans.
  • Implement testing plans by attempting to cause failures in code.
  • Install and configure advanced sensors (LiDAR, RADAR, cameras, GPS, etc.) and ECUs.
  • Calibrate and diagnose electronic and mechanical measurement systems.
  • Integrate ECU software and configure ADAS features.
  • Program and deploy gateway software.
  • Troubleshoot complex system-level issues across hardware and software.
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of vehicles and lab equipment.
  • Define and execute service plans for test benches and data acquisition systems.
  • Lead equipment procurement and ensure facility safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with site management on infrastructure and safety improvements.
  • Interface with software, hardware, calibration, and infrastructure teams.
  • Drive preparation and execution of demos, trials, and trade shows.
  • Support hands-on testing, including occasional domestic/international travels.
  • 8+ years of Systems Test Engineering or related work experience.
  • Electrical qualification.
  • Experience in vehicle disassembly, harness manufacturing, and sensor integration.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle networks (CAN, FlexRay, Ethernet).
  • Hands-on experience with dGPS, RADAR, LiDAR, and camera systems.
  • Programming skills in embedded C and Python.
  • Familiarity with Linux systems, IP networking, and scripting.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Japanese.
  • Valid driver’s license (Type B or equivalent).

General Summary:

System Test Engineering, Staff Engineer (R40)

  • Experience in vehicle disassembly, harness manufacturing, and sensor integration
  • Strong understanding of vehicle networks (CAN, FlexRay, Ethernet)

  • Programming skills in embedded C and Python

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts log analyses with team members to identify where an issue has occurred and makes recommendations for how to address the issue.
  • Verifies that proposed solutions to identified issues accurately address and correct the problem and do not impact other functionalities.
  • Reviews functional test and adds additional test cases when necessary to ensure that issues are fully understood and analyzed.
  • Reviews results documents to assist team in determining root causes of testing errors and determines best way to debug. Prioritizes errors as required.
  • Identifies test requirements based on input from team and manager with minimal oversight.
  • Participates in project review sessions within team to deliver constructive feedback on testing problems encountered by more junior staff.
  • Displays expertise for the different features of the system.
  • Collects information (e.g., logs, requirements) across team members and identifies fundamental patterns/trends related to systems testing.
  • Reviews performance test and adds additional test cases when necessary to ensure that issues are fully understood and analyzed.
  • Serves as a mentor to Engineers and Senior Engineers and teaches them about complex features, systems, testing strategies, and automation.
  • Addresses general technical issues and escalates only highly complex technical issues to tech leads or Principal Engineers.
  • Determines if issues should be tested in the field or in the lab and ensures that all possible scenarios are addressed in the test plans.
  • Collaborates with functional and lab teams, IO teams, network operators, field teams, and product management teams to ensure that the testing plan is accurate for addressing feature issues.
  • Implements a testing plan by attempting to cause a failure within multiple areas of code.

OR

  • PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
