Tools Programmer

Location: Glasgow in studio/Hybrid
Role Type: 1 Year Contract

We are looking for an experienced Programmer to join our Glasgow-based studio to design and develop in-house tools and technology that support the creation of our games. Working closely with designers, artists, and the wider code team, you will play a pivotal role in streamlining workflows, improving productivity, and ensuring the technical needs of the studio are met efficiently. This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines. If you thrive in a small, close-knit team, enjoy taking ownership of technical challenges, and have a passion for building tools that empower game development, we’d love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain in-house tools and pipelines to improve workflows for designers, artists, and other developers.

  • Work independently and within a small team to identify studio needs and propose technical solutions.
  • Partner with artists and designers to understand their requirements and create user-friendly tools that help bring creative visions to life.
  • Optimize tools for performance and reliability to minimize bottlenecks in development pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing tools, workflows, and pipelines.
  • Maintain detailed documentation for tools, workflows, and systems to ensure their longevity and usability by the team.
  • Contribute to brainstorming and technical planning sessions to improve the studio’s technology infrastructure.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and tools development practices to ensure the studio remains competitive.

  • 3+ years of professional or equivalent experience in tools development or game programming.
  • A degree in coding/programming or equivalent experience.
  • Strong proficiency in C# with C++ as a bonus (experience with Unity Engine tool development is a plus).
  • Solid understanding of scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automation and pipeline creation.
  • Experience designing intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for tools and workflows.

  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for creating efficient solutions and a desire to empower others through technology.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively across a multi-disciplinary team.

Desired

  • Experience with multi-platform game development pipelines.
  • Knowledge of asset pipeline development and integration (e.g., working with 3D models, animations, textures).
  • Familiarity with build systems and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with procedural content generation tools or systems.
  • Knowledge of database integration and data visualization for analytics tools.
