Position Overview
Kavaliro is seeking a Cloud Architect for our client who will be responsible for both deploying new client services and ensuring the ongoing stability and performance of existing environments. This role requires strong expertise in AWS and hands-on experience with consulting, infrastructure design, and native application development. The architect will build and maintain secure, scalable, and highly available platforms while driving automation and efficiency across cloud operations.
Key responsibilities include designing and integrating complex IT systems, managing infrastructure migrations, overseeing full-stack application lifecycles, and ensuring compliance with CMMC, DoD, and cybersecurity standards. The Cloud Architect also plays a critical role in reducing costs and implementation time while delivering enterprise-grade solutions that meet mission requirements. This includes developing technical documentation, assessing configuration management processes, and recommending modern tools and approaches to keep environments optimized and future-ready.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience
- 6+ years supporting DoD or commercial cloud/IT programs
- Proficiency with AWS Cloud services and CI/CD technologies
- Experience architecting and managing large-scale IT systems (servers, networks, storage, cloud, virtualization)
- Strong background in automation, infrastructure as code (IaC), and deployment pipelines
- Ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issues across hardware, operating systems, and applications
- Familiarity with APIs and RESTful service integration
- Skilled in collaborating with engineering and data teams to support advanced workloads (e.g., ML deployments, HPC)
- Experience enforcing security, compliance, backup, and disaster recovery strategies
- Hands-on experience with system migrations, upgrades, and high-availability solutions in AWS
- Expertise in cloud cost analysis and optimization
- Knowledge of configuration management and code versioning tools (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, etc.)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with stakeholders to clarify requirements and design solutions
- CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent required
- U.S. Citizenship required, with active DoD clearance preferred (or ability to obtain one)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration
- Strong knowledge of IaC tools such as CloudFormation, AWS CDK, SAM, or Terraform
- Background in Linux/Windows administration, networking, and multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional or DevOps Engineer Professional certifications
- Prior experience building self-service platforms at scale
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana) and automation frameworks (Ansible, Puppet)
- Experience deploying applications with RESTful/SOAP interfaces
- Ability to design cost-effective, multi-tiered cloud solutions with integrated monitoring and governance
