Job Description

The EHS Technician will support Environment, Health, and Safety operations at data center facilities and construction in the Netherlands. This role involves working closely with EHS Managers, Operations, Construction Teams, and external vendors to ensure compliance with local, national, and EU regulations, promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. The technician will implement and maintain proactive EHS programs, ensuring adherence to Dutch (Arbowet) and EU (EU-OSHA, REACH, RoHS) regulations, and company safety management systems. This hands-on position requires a strong technical background and a passion for workplace safety and sustainability.
Must have:
  • Collaborate with contractors and site leadership on EHS regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with Dutch and EU EHS regulations (Arbowet, REACH, RoHS).
  • Support fire drills, first-aid readiness, and emergency response plans.
  • Oversee, inspect, and audit EHS compliance within construction activities.
  • Lead and coordinate meetings with contractors and site leadership for accountability and risk identification.
  • Conduct incident response and investigations in coordination with Global Safety, Risk, and Security management.
  • Provide thorough analysis of EHS risks and develop mitigating strategies.
  • Collaborate and contribute to the creation of EHS policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate Emergency Response and related evacuation planning and drills.
  • Provide timely reports on EHS trends, risks, concern reports, near misses, and other incidents.
  • Communicate and facilitate walkthroughs with regulatory authorities.
  • Manage EHS management system for contractor validation and verification.
  • Assign, manage, and ensure accuracy of EHS penalties/incentives to contractors.
  • Run projects and other assigned duties.

  • MVK (Middelbare Veiligheidskundige) certification preferred

Primary purpose of the role:

The EHS Technician will support Environment, Health, and Safety operations at our data center facilities and construction in the Netherlands. You will work closely with EHS Managers, Operations Teams, Construction Teams and external vendors to ensure compliance with local, national, and EU regulations while promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.

The EHS Technician must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be committed to building collaborative relationships with contractors and operations to facilitate overall implementation of the health and safety program.

As an EHS Technician, you will be a critical part of our on-site team supporting the safe and environmentally responsible operation of mission-critical infrastructure in our data center(s) across the Netherlands.

Working closely with EHS Managers, Facility Operations, Security, and Vendors, your role is to implement and maintain proactive EHS programs, ensure compliance with Dutch (Arbowet), EU (EU-OSHA, REACH, RoHS) regulations, and company-specific safety management systems.

This is a hands-on position, ideal for a professional with a strong technical background, attention to detail, and a passion for workplace safety and sustainability.

This position will primarily be working in a construction environment and will directly report to the Head of Global Health and Safety with dotted lines to the VP of Construction EMEA.

Your role in our mission:

  • Collaborate with contractors and site leadership with a collaborative approach to implementation of site EHS regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with monitoring and ensuring compliance with Dutch and EU EHS regulations, including Arbowet (Dutch Working Conditions Act), REACH, RoHS, and other relevant standards.
  • Support fire drills, first-aid readiness, and emergency response plans.
  • Oversee, inspect, audit EHS compliance within construction activities; drive continuous improvements through control implementation for identified risks.
  • Lead, attend, coordinate meetings with contractors and site leadership to drive accountability and risk identification within HRW activities.
  • Conduct incident response and investigations for assigned IMDC site in coordination with Iron Mountain Global Safety, Risk, and Security (GSRS) management.
  • Provide a thorough analysis of EHS risks and the development of appropriate mitigating strategies.
  • Collaborate and contribute to the creation of EHS policies and procedures within IMDC global EHS strategy.
  • Coordinate Emergency Response and related evacuation planning and drills.
  • Provide timely reports on identified EHS trends and risks, concern reports, near misses, and other incidents within the assigned sites.
  • Must be able to appropriately and effectively communicate and facilitate walkthroughs with any regulatory authority.
  • Manage EHS management system for contractor validation and verification.
  • Assign, manage, and ensure accuracy of EHS penalties/ incentives to contractors within contractual scopes.
  • Run projects and other assigned duties as needed.

Key Skills, Requirements, and Competencies:

  • 1-3 years of experience in Construction Safety.
  • MBO or HBO degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
  • MVK (Middelbare Veiligheidskundige) certification preferred; willingness to pursue is acceptable.
  • Knowledge of Dutch and European safety legislation.
  • Ability to facilitate and diffuse crucial conversations
  • Must be able to multitask effectively during busy times, exercise patience, and professionalism during stressful situations.
  • Computer experience (GSuite preferred), able to create and manipulate spreadsheet information.
  • Candidates need to possess the skills to deliver professional, helpful, high-quality service meeting the needs and desires of our customers.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, administrative, and communication skills, as well as strong leadership traits in order to deal effectively with colleagues, visitors, and customers.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with governmental regulatory authorities.
  • Fluent in Dutch and English (written and verbal).
