Job Description

As a Senior Health & Benefits (H&B) Consultant at Mercer in Louisville, KY, you will manage complex client engagements for employers with 2,000+ lives. This hybrid role involves overseeing service delivery, strategy, financial evaluations, and plan design for medical, dental, life, and disability benefit plans. You will negotiate with carriers, act as a client relationship manager, and drive the development of innovative solutions while ensuring project success and profitability.
Must have:
  • Manage complex client engagements including service delivery, strategy, financial evaluations, plan design, renewal, and benchmarking.
  • Develop sophisticated benefits design and renewal strategies.
  • Develop the full scope of services and set team roles.
  • Effectively communicate Mercer's position on industry trends.
  • Be accountable for revenue/profitability for client accounts.
  • Monitor project success (scope, budget, timeliness, client satisfaction).
  • Set strategic direction and and create demand for new products/services.
  • Manage and participate in new business opportunities.
  • Hold a BA/BS degree.
  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in health care benefit plan solutions.
  • Have client-facing experience in a consulting capacity.
  • Demonstrate renowned expertise and industry reputation in health & benefits.

Job Details

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Health & Benefits team at Mercer. This role will be based in Louisville, KY. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

As a Senior Health & Benefits (H&B) Consultant, you will assist with managing consulting engagements with 2,000+ life employers regarding their medical, dental, life, and disability benefit plans and programs. You will negotiate with benefits carriers and vendors to secure health and welfare plan coverage for these employers, acting as the client manager and often the Mercer relationship manager.

We will count on you to:

  • Manage complex client engagements, including overall service delivery, strategy, financial evaluations, plan design, renewal, business placement, benchmarking, and other studies.
  • Develop sophisticated benefits design and renewal strategies and drive the development of tools and solutions to address complex client issues.
  • Develop the full scope of services provided to the client and set roles/responsibilities within the client team.
  • Effectively communicate Mercer's position on the latest industry trends to clients.
  • Be accountable for revenue/profitability for client accounts and projects.
  • Monitor the success of projects in terms of scope, budget, timeliness, and client satisfaction.
  • Set strategic direction and create demand for new products/services in the marketplace.
  • Manage and participate in new business opportunities with sales channel partners.

What you need to have:

  • BA/BS degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in identifying, designing, recommending, and implementing efficient, innovative business solutions to clients' complex health care benefit plans.
  • Client facing experience in a consulting capacity
  • Renowned expertise and industry reputation in the health & benefits field.
