Job Description

Vertigo Games seeks a Senior Rigging Artist to contribute to their next VR game. Responsibilities encompass rigging complex creatures, characters, and objects; creating and optimizing rigging and animation workflows using scripts and tools; developing new features for existing tools; creating hand poses and finger animations for VR; collaborating with various teams; setting up blend shapes for facial animation; and staying updated on industry trends. The ideal candidate possesses proven gaming industry experience with complex character rigs, extensive knowledge of rigging techniques, proficiency in Maya, MotionBuilder, Unreal Engine, and scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL).

Your mission
We are Vertigo Games, developers and publishers of top-end VR titles like Metro Awakening, Arizona Sunshine, After the Fall and The 7th Guest. Our Amsterdam studio has started development of our next VR game, following Metro Awakening, and we are looking to recruit a Senior Rigging Artist who can aid us in our mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Rig complex creatures, humanoid characters and a range of intricate items such as props, mechanical and vehicle rigs, including realistic and stylized designs for virtual reality games.
  • Utilize and create scripts and tools to streamline and optimize the rigging and animation workflow.
  • Expand upon the current rigging and animation tools with new features and modules.
  • Create hand poses and finger animations for natural and intuitive virtual reality interactions.
  • Collaborate closely with the character team, technical animators, animators and game designers to ensure seamless integration of rigs and coordinate efforts effectively.
  • Create and set up blend shapes for facial animation and lip-sync.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest rigging techniques, trends, and best practices in the gaming industry.
Your profile
  • Proven experience as a Rigging Artist in the gaming industry, with a strong portfolio showcasing complex character rigs.
  • Extensive knowledge of rigging techniques, deformation systems, and character setup.
  • Experience in working with Maya, Motionbuilder and Unreal Engine.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL) for tool and pipeline development.
  • Excellent communication, time management and collaboration abilities, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and coordination skills.
Bonus points for
  • Prior experience working on virtual reality projects.
  • Knowledge of Blender, Unreal blueprints, control rig and motion matching.
  • Experience with motion capture and real-time animation workflows.
  • Solid mentorship skills.
