Job Description

Vertigo Games, a developer and publisher of top-end VR titles, is seeking a Senior Asset Artist for their Amsterdam studio. The role involves creating game-ready art assets, ensuring consistent quality and style, and collaborating with environment artists and level designers. The Senior Asset Artist will also identify performance bottlenecks, mentor junior artists, and coordinate with production. This position is crucial for developing immersive entertainment experiences for their next VR game.
Good To Have:
  • Experienced in 3D mobile and/or VR development.
  • Proficient with Substance Designer and/or Houdini.
  • Ability to create materials (Unreal, HLSL) and scripts (Unreal Blueprint, MEL, Python).
Must Have:
  • Create game-ready art assets according to guidelines and technical specifications.
  • Work with leads and art director to ensure consistent quality and style.
  • Co-operate with environment artists and level designers to craft detailed assets.
  • Identify and address potential performance bottlenecks.
  • Mentor junior artists in industry best practices and personal growth.
  • Co-ordinate with leads and production for clear planning.
  • Console or PC game development experience in an agile team.
  • Experience as an Asset Artist or closely related role (4+ years).
  • Proficient with Unreal Engine, Blender, Zbrush, and Substance Painter.
  • Strong traditional art fundamentals (form, color, proportions, shape, composition).
  • Understanding of modularity of assets including trim sheets and construction sets.
  • Experienced in creating optimized in-game art assets (hard surface and organic models).
  • Understanding of modern materials and shaders.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of self-direction and motivation.
  • Experienced with Perforce and Jira.
  • Excellent English communication and writing skills.

##### Your mission

We are Vertigo Games, developers and publishers of top-end VR titles like Metro Awakening, Arizona Sunshine, After the Fall and The 7th Guest. Our studio has started development of our next VR game, following Metro Awakening, and we are looking to recruit a Senior Asset Artist who can aid us in our mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create game-ready art assets according to guidelines and technical specifications.
  • Proactively work with the leads and art director to ensure consistent quality and style.
  • Closely co-operate with environment artists and level designers to craft detailed assets that meet the needs of the environment and the player experience.
  • Identify potential performance bottlenecks, address them ahead of time and when they crop up.
  • Mentor more junior artists in industry best practices and personal growth.
  • Co-ordinate with leads and production to maintain a clear and consistent view on planning.

##### Your profile

  • Console or PC game development experience in an agile team.
  • Experience as an Asset Artist or closely related role in game development typically gained over 4+ years.
  • Proficient with Unreal Engine (or similar), Blender (or similar), Zbrush, and Substance Painter.
  • Strong traditional art fundamentals, including the function of form and color, proportions, shape, composition, etc.
  • Understanding of modularity of assets used in games including trim sheets and construction sets.
  • Experienced in creating optimized in-game art assets including hard surface and organic models.
  • Understanding of modern materials and shaders in a high level of proficiency.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of self-direction and motivation.
  • Experienced with source control software (Perforce) and task tracking software (Jira).
  • Excellent English communication and writing skills. Being able to articulate your process, giving and receiving critical feedback.
