Lead Environment Artist to manage and mentor the environment art team, ensuring artistic and technical consistency across all environmental elements. Responsibilities include planning development schedules, assigning tasks, providing daily feedback, and collaborating with technical artists to establish efficient workflows. The role involves creating playable levels based on artistic vision and level design needs, including world geometry and composition in Unreal Engine, conducting performance reviews, and participating in recruitment and onboarding.
Good To Have:
  • Traditional fine arts skills as well as basic graphic design skills (composition and layout, typography, color and light).
  • Environment modeling skills.
  • Visual scripting skills.
Must Have:
  • Manage and mentor environment artists to achieve project results and foster personal growth.
  • Maintain artistic and technical consistency of all environment art.
  • Effectively produce playable levels based on Art Director's vision and Level Design needs.
  • 10+ years experience in environment asset creation workflow.
  • At least one AAA shipped title as Environment Artist.
  • Experience with 3D modeling, sculpting, texture painting software (Maya, Max, ZBrush, Photoshop).
  • Experience with Unreal Engine.
  • Substance Painter proficiency.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • To manage talents of Environment team to achieve best possible result for the project and personal growth of team members
  • To maintain technical and artistic consistency of all environment art created by the environment art team.
  • To effectively produce playable levels based on Art directors vision and Level design needs

Duties

  • Provide mentorship, direction and best in class managing principles to ensure quality results and efficient working practices
  • Work with production and Level Design team to plan development and provide tasks assignment to dedicated artists team schedule
  • Maintain technical consistency of all environment art created by the Environment team
  • Ensure that all created assets efficiently satisfy all technical engine and design requirements
  • Provide day-to-day feedback and creatively solve problems
  • Working with technical artist/lead technical artist to develop strong and efficient workflows for the environment team
  • Bugfixing and describing R&D case studies in knowledge base
  • Effectively produce playable levels based on Art directors vision and Level design needs
  • Creating world geometry and composition for levels in Unreal Engine
  • Conduct consistent performance reviews of staff members
  • Conduct recruitment projects with HR collaboration
  • Conduct onboarding to new hires

Collaboration

  • Collaboration with producers, level designers, concept artists, technical artists, asset artists, lighting teams.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Typically 10+ years of experience in environment asset creation workflow ( props for a diverse set of environments with use of all new techniques)
  • Typically at least one AAA shipped title with credits as Environment Artists
  • A passion for mentoring
  • Training in modern leadership techniques
  • Great experience with industry-standard software packages for 3D modeling, high poly sculpting, and texture painting (Maya, Max, ZBrush, Photoshop, or their equivalents)
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine (Or Equivalent)
  • Substance Painter working proficiency
  • Experience creating high quality creative/visual aesthetics as well as technical knowledge
  • Being able to adapt fast a specific art style
  • Excellent understanding of color theory
  • Great understanding of PBR lighting basics and material authoring
  • Ability to show examples of top notch props and textures made for next gen console games
  • Skilled at balancing art quality and performance in the game engine
  • A mastery of modular workflows
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Open-minded team player attitude
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated
  • Passionate about playing and making video games
