Job Description

Motorola Solutions is seeking a Technical Writer to translate complex information into clear, understandable documentation for non-technical audiences. This role involves creating various technical documents such as user guides, service manuals, and troubleshooting guides. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of technical writing experience and be authorized to work in the U.S. indefinitely. The position is full-time and remote within the US, with a target salary range of $85,000 - $95,000 USD.
Good To Have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in English, communications, journalism, technical writing or related field.
  • Proficient or some knowledge in PHP.
  • Proficient or some knowledge in .NET.
  • Subject matter expert with Enterprise Applications, Technical Architecture, Quality Frameworks for technology delivery.
  • Knowledge of best practices for code development.
  • Firm sense of order and discipline.
  • Strong command of the English language (oral and written) and ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Ability to self-manage work assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to conduct interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation.
  • Excellent in organizing ideas and concepts to produce concise documentation.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to constructively manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to create workflows using Lucidchart.
  • High working-level computer literacy in authoring tools.
  • Capability to use information mapping in preparing technical write-ups.
  • Ability to write to a highly technical and specialized audience using industry concepts and terms.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure.
Must Have:

  • Produce Technical Documentation of System Processes and Flows, User Guides, Reference Guides, Quick Start Guides, Service Manuals, Troubleshooting Guides.
  • 4+ years experience in technical writing.

Department Overview

With over 20 Billion rows of license plate and geospatial data, Digital Recognition Network (https://drndata.com) is a fast-growing License Plate Recognition Data company that is looking for a Project Manager to help execute on the backlog of commercial products. The company’s image capture and analysis platform, which includes fixed and mobile license plate reader cameras driven by machine learning and artificial intelligence, provides vehicle location data to public safety and commercial customers. Acquired by Motorola Solutions in January 2019, this new product offering will expand the command center software portfolio with the largest shareable database of vehicle location information that can help shorten response times and improve the speed and accuracy of investigations.

Job Description

As a technical writer you will translate complex information into words that a non-technical/non-scientific person can understand and use. This candidate must be able to write in a way that the targeted audience can understand and create the documents that teach the world how to operate systems and understand processes properly.

The technical writer is expected to produce the following types of documents:

  • Technical Documentation of System Processes and Flows
  • User Guides
  • Reference Guides
  • Quick Start Guides
  • Service Manuals
  • Troubleshooting Guides and More

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in English, communications, journalism, technical writing or related field preferred
  • Proficient or some knowledge in PHP
  • Proficient or some knowledge in .NET
  • Must be the subject matter expert with Enterprise Applications, Technical Architecture, Quality Frameworks for technology delivery
  • Must have knowledge of best practices for code development
  • Must have a firm sense of order and discipline
  • Bring a strong command of the English language (oral and written), and be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels and across numerous functional areas
  • Self-manage work assignments and meet deadlines
  • Conduct interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation
  • Be excellent in organizing ideas and concepts to produce concise documentation
  • Balance multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Constructively manage changing priorities
  • Ability to create workflows using Lucidchart
  • Must have a high working-level computer literacy in authoring tools, capability to use information mapping in preparing technical write-ups is an added advantage
  • Must have the ability to write to a highly technical and specialized audience using industry concepts and terms

Target Base Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 USD

Consistent with values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
