Job Summary

The AI Governance Officer will play a critical role in establishing and maintaining a robust AI governance and ethical framework, ensuring the responsible adoption and deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) systems. This role is foundational to achieving Level 3 'Structured' maturity in the organization's 'Manage AI Risk' capability, involving policy development, regulatory compliance, risk management, and promoting AI literacy.

Must Have

  • Establish and Mature the AI Risk Management Framework

  • Formalize RAI Operations (roles, responsibilities, escalation paths)
  • Oversee the AI Use Case Review Process from a responsible AI Committee perspective
  • Play a leading role in Data/AI governance
  • Launch and Maintain the AI System Inventory
  • Develop and ratify a Risk Classification Framework
  • Create compliance roadmaps for identified high-risk systems
  • Proactively identify and mitigate legal and ethical risks
  • Promote Responsible AI Practices
  • Enhance AI Literacy and Trust
  • Implement AI Transparency and communication guidelines for disclosures and explainability
  • Proven experience in AI Governance, Risk Management, or Compliance
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML systems and their lifecycle
  • Expert knowledge of current and pending AI-related regulatory frameworks, especially the EU AI Act
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Ability to work with and get advice from various stakeholders

Job Description

The AI Governance Officer will play a critical, leading role in establishing and maintaining a robust AI governance and ethical framework, ensuring the responsible adoption and deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) systems across the organization. This role is foundational to achieving Level 3 'Structured' maturity in the organization's 'Manage AI Risk' capability.

Key Responsibilities:

Governance and Framework Development

  • Establish and Mature the AI Risk Management Framework: Drive the organization's move from an 'Aware' to a 'Structured' level of AI risk maturity. This includes formalizing and communicating the AI Risk Management Framework.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance (EU AI Act Readiness): Systematically prepare the organization for compliance with the upcoming EU AI Act and other relevant regulations.
  • Develop AI Policy and Guidelines: Build and validate guidelines for an AI Policy , and roll out a clear AI Usage Policy for all employees. Implement enforcement mechanisms for high-risk and prohibited AI tools.
  • Formalize RAI Operations: Formalize roles, responsibilities, and escalation paths into an RAI Charter.
  • Oversee the AI Use Case Review Process from a responsible AI Committee perspective: Act as a central point of contact for AI-related requests, issues, and concerns and streamline the AI Use Case intake & review process. This includes creating and running a decision-making process when new requests/concerns come in.
  • AI Governance (Leading Role): Play a leading role in Data/AI governance, ensuring responsible AI use, establishing guardrails, and promoting explainability and transparency.

AI System Inventory and Risk Management

  • Launch and Maintain the AI System Inventory: Initiate the AI System Inventory Initiative to provide a single source of truth for AI assets , ideally on an Enterprise Architecture (EA) platform like LeanIX.
  • Risk Classification: Develop and ratify a Risk Classification Framework and classify AI use cases into the appropriate risk categories (Unacceptable, High-Risk, Limited, or Minimal) as per the EU AI Act's framework.
  • Compliance Roadmaps: Create compliance roadmaps for identified high-risk systems.
  • Proactive Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify and mitigate legal and ethical risks, preventing issues like algorithmic bias and data lineage failures.

Adoption and Culture

  • Promote Responsible AI Practices: Provide AI technical expertise and promote responsible AI practices.
  • Enhance AI Literacy and Trust: Work to build organizational trust and competency in AI by enabling and adopting AI technology through AI Culture, Literacy & Trust and contributing to the design and launch of a targeted, multi-level AI Training program.
  • Transparency Guidelines: Implement AI Transparency and communication guidelines for disclosures and explainability.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in AI Governance, Risk Management, or Compliance.
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML systems and their lifecycle.
  • Expert knowledge of current and pending AI-related regulatory frameworks, especially the EU AI Act.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work with and get advice from various stakeholders including Legal, IT, and Business SMEs.
