As an Animatable Systems Creator (Rigger) at Ubi MTL, you will enable characters and objects to come to life and move realistically in our worlds. You will define what can be done and how, using flexible and intuitive systems, drawing inspiration from reality when possible and imagination when not. Using various internal tools, you will focus on the quality and consistency of your results without having to recreate everything from scratch each time.

Must Have

  • Collaborate with the art team to understand the overall game vision and animation/appearance needs.
  • Familiarize yourself with concept art and research your own references.
  • Create rigs and apply textures for characters and objects while staying organized.
  • Balance artistic aspects and technical constraints with technical directors.
  • Collaborate with character modelers to correct models as needed.
  • Work with animators to make models move realistically and manage movement limitations.
  • Refine your work based on feedback from interdependent teams.

Good to Have

  • Knowledge of other 3D software (Maya and MotionBuilder)
  • Familiarity with scripting

Job Description

As an Animatable Systems Creator (rigger) at Ubi MTL, you will enable characters and objects to come to life and move realistically in our worlds.

Pivot, bend, crush or stretch... you will define what can be done and how, using your flexible and intuitive systems. You will draw inspiration from reality when possible and use imagination when it is not. Thanks to the various internal tools at your disposal, you will be able to focus on the quality and consistency of your results without having to recreate everything from scratch each time.

What you will do

  • Collaborate with the art team to understand the overall game vision and animation and appearance needs.
  • Familiarize yourself with concept art and research your own references.
  • Create rigs and apply textures for characters and objects while staying organized (ensuring scene cleanliness, following naming conventions, etc.).
  • Find the balance between artistic aspects and technical constraints with the help of technical directors.
  • Collaborate with character modelers to correct models as needed.
  • Work with animators to make models move realistically and manage movement limitations.
  • Refine your work based on feedback from interdependent teams.

Qualifications

What you bring to the team

  • A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in creating animatable systems, modeling, or animation (or other relevant experience).
  • Very good knowledge of 3DS Max.
  • Knowledge of other 3D software, a big asset (Maya and MotionBuilder) + familiarity with scripting.
  • Good knowledge of anatomy and tissues.
  • Excellent observation, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A collaborative, creative, and innovative spirit.
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness.
  • Motivation to seek colleagues' opinions and the ability to adapt to them.
  • Familiarity with game engines (Unity or Unreal), an asset.
