Job Summary

Onward Search is hiring an Associate Director, External Communications for a client, a provider of financial information, analytics, and energy and commodities intelligence. This 6+ month hybrid contract role in New York, NY, requires supporting US and Americas stakeholders in media relations and external communications, including press releases, index announcements, and crisis response. The role involves providing strategic communications counsel to senior leadership and monitoring media coverage.

Must Have

  • Work with key US/Americas stakeholders to support media relations and external communication efforts.
  • Support press releases and key index announcements.
  • Monitor media coverage and news stories.
  • Provide crisis communication support.
  • Respond to financial and markets reporters in a timely manner.
  • Advise senior leaders and stakeholders on critical communications issues.
  • 8 years of communications experience, with significant focus on external communications.
  • Preferably experience in the financial services or markets industry.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and inspire trust and confidence from senior leaders.
  • Experience working globally in a large multinational, matrixed environment.
  • Ability to develop KPIs to measure success and use data and insights to inform communications decisions, influence stakeholders, and demonstrate results.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or Business.

Job Description

We’re hiring an Associate Director, External Communications for our client, a provider of financial information, analytics, and energy and commodities intelligence. This is a 6+ month hybrid contract opportunity based in New York, NY, with onsite presence required two days per week.

In this role, you will report to the Head of Communications and support key stakeholders across the US and Americas regions. You’ll focus on media relations and external communications, including press releases, index announcements, and crisis response, while providing strategic communications counsel to senior leadership.

Associate Director, External Communications Responsibilities:

  • Work with key US/Americas stakeholders to support media relations and external communication efforts, including press releases and key index announcements.
  • Monitor media coverage and news stories; provide crisis communication support and respond to financial and markets reporters in a timely manner.
  • Advise senior leaders and stakeholders on critical communications issues.
  • Contribute to internal communications initiatives where appropriate.

Associate Director, External Communications Qualifications:

  • 8 years of communications experience, with significant focus on external communications, preferably in the financial services or markets industry.
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to build relationships and inspire trust and confidence from senior leaders.
  • Experience working globally in a large multinational, matrixed environment.
  • Ability to develop KPIs to measure success and use data and insights to inform communications decisions, influence stakeholders, and demonstrate results.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or Business.

*Eligibility requires working over 30 hours per week on an assignment lasting at least 10 weeks.
