About the Role
Our Springer books imprint is seeking an Associate Editor/Editor to join the acquisitions team. This new colleague will develop and manage academic and professional books in Finance, Accounting, and Management as part of our team focused on Business, Economics, and Political Science books.
This role is part of Springer’s global publishing program, with team members based in both Europe and the USA.
Key subject areas include: FinTech & Digital Finance, Corporate Finance, Financial Markets, Accounting Standards, Risk Management, Behavioral Finance, and ESG Reporting.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate a keen interest in the subject and bring strong organizational and communication skills with business acumen. This position offers the opportunity to shape cutting-edge content for academics and professionals in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
Responsibilities
- Manage and develop existing book series and individual books in close collaboration with the Senior Editor and Executive Editor
- Identify promising topics, recruit volume editors and authors for new book projects; negotiate on contracts and ensure a smooth collaboration over the lifetime of a project
- Oversee book projects through all stages of the publishing process—from concept to publication; proactively identify and develop new editions of books
- Contribute to the strategic development of the editorial program together with your team
- Represent Springer at national and international academic conferences and industry events to foster relationships and expand networks
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics/Finance, Business/Management, or a related discipline; a Master’s degree is preferred, but not mandatory
- Familiarity with academic publishing (books or journals)
- Ability and interest to work in a dynamic, author-facing role
- For Associate level - 1–2 years of work experience, including any internships or part-time roles, ideally in a business or publishing environment
- For Editor level - at least 2-3 years of experience in academic publishing in a similar role
- Strong analytical, entrepreneurial, and problem-solving mindset
- Confidence in organizational and negotiation skills
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English. Conversational knowledge of any further language will be of advantage
- High level of interpersonal and collaborative competencies
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take initiative
- Effective time management and multitasking abilities
- Proactive ownership of tasks and projects
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint); openness to learning new systems and tools, including LLMs
