Onward Search is a specialized staffing and talent solutions company that helps professionals find top jobs with the nation’s leading brands. We’re hiring an Associate Researcher for a leading video game company. This is a 12-month contract opportunity (hybrid) located in Los Angeles, CA.
In this role, you’ll join the Insights team to support research for a major game title. You’ll help design and moderate playtests, facilitate group discussions, and manage research logistics while collaborating with researchers, analysts, and strategists. Your contributions will generate actionable player insights that shape new products and features.
Associate Researcher Responsibilities:
- Assist in the setup of test and survey designs for playtests.
- Translate research requirements into data pulls for recruiting players.
- Moderate usability studies, expert reviews, and playtests; observe participants and compile actionable insights.
- Take detailed notes during playtests and support topline reporting.
- Assist researchers in creating clear, digestible research reports.
- Manage logistics for user-tests including material prep, tech setup, player onboarding, and post-lab clean-up.
- Run group discussions with players to capture player perspectives.
- Partner with Global Research Operations to coordinate recruiting, scheduling, and playtest moderation.
Associate Researcher Qualifications:
- Minimum 6 months of experience with user research or group discussion moderation.
- Experience playing or strong familiarity with League of Legends (systems, terminology, and community).
- Experience with survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, QuestionPro).
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in-person at the Los Angeles office.
- BA or BS in Psychology, Anthropology, Cognitive Science, HCI, Human Factors, or related field (preferred).
- Experience working in the video game industry (preferred).
- Knowledge of game design fundamentals and production cycles (preferred).
- Experience running playtests or live-production research projects (preferred).
- Familiarity with research tools such as Qualtrics, Q, Sawtooth, or Tableau (preferred).
