A Character and Props Designer is responsible for creating original characters and props in Adobe Animate, ensuring they align with the project's visual style and production needs. The role involves developing modular, animation-optimized assets, creating reference materials, and collaborating with animation and rigging teams. The designer will also manage asset libraries and iterate on designs based on feedback.

Character and Props Designer (Adobe Animate)

Job Responsibilities

  • Design original characters and props in Adobe Animate, based on the story, script, or project direction.
  • Create turnarounds, expression sheets, and reference poses for characters, as needed.
  • Develop modular assets optimized for animation (e.g., separate layers for body parts).
  • Ensure all art aligns with the project's visual style, tone, and production requirements.
  • Collaborate with animation and rigging teams to ensure assets are functional and efficient.
  • Organize and maintain asset libraries and file structures for efficient production use.
  • Iterate on designs based on team feedback and production changes.

Requirements and Skills:

  • More than 4 years of experience as a 2D character and props designer in a professional animation studio.
  • Strong illustration skills and understanding of anatomy, character design, and stylization.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Animate, especially in drawing tools and symbol-based workflows.
  • Experience designing for 2D animation pipelines, with knowledge of vector design and asset optimization.
  • Ability to work in modular and layered formats, suitable for rigging and tweening.
  • Basic knowledge of animation principles to create animatable designs.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to follow instructions and collaborate in a team.
  • Good time management and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Experience working in a studio environment on animated productions.
  • Familiarity with symbol rigging and puppet-style animation workflows.
  • Experience with complementary tools like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Toon Boom Harmony.
  • Professional, positive, and collaborative attitude, team-oriented.
