Job Description

Larian Studios, known for Baldur's Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2, seeks a Character Artist to create high-quality character models. The role involves sculpting high-poly models, retopologizing, texturing using PBR principles, and integrating characters into the game engine. Collaboration and continuous improvement are key aspects of this role. The artist will work with other artists and support the team where needed. This position requires a strong understanding of character modeling and experience with industry-standard tools.
Good To Have:
  • Experience with Marvelous Designer.
  • Experience with card-based hair modeling.
  • Understanding of shaders and material setup.
  • Awareness of rigging and skinning workflows.
  • Familiarity with game engines and asset integration.
  • Knowledge of baking workflows and texture optimization.
  • Interest in character design and storytelling.
Must Have:
  • Create high-quality character models under supervision.
  • Sculpt detailed organic models using ZBrush.
  • Basic knowledge of retopology for game assets.
  • Foundational understanding of texturing with Substance Painter.
  • Eagerness to learn and apply feedback.

Responsibilities
  • Create high-quality character models under supervision
  • Sculpt high-poly character models, retopologize for in-game use, and texture using PBR principles
  • Integrate characters into the engine and ensure they function as intended
  • Collaborate with other artists and support the team where needed
  • Take initiative to continuously improve and expand your technical and artistic skillset


Requirements
  • Solid understanding of human anatomy and form
  • Ability to sculpt detailed organic models
  • Proficient in ZBrush
  • Basic knowledge of retopology for game-ready assets
  • Foundational understanding of the texturing process using Substance Painter
  • Eagerness to learn and apply feedback in a production environment


Nice to have
  • Experience with Marvelous Designer
  • Experience with card-based hair modeling
  • Basic understanding of shaders and material setup in real-time engines (e.g. Unreal or proprietary engines)
  • Awareness of rigging and skinning workflows and how they impact topology and deformation
  • Familiarity with game engines and asset integration pipelines
  • Knowledge of baking workflows and texture optimization
  • Interest in character design, costuming, or storytelling through visual design
