As a Co-op Biological Safety Engineer, you will contribute to the design and development of new respiratory care products, including CPAPs, ventilators, and masks. Must Have:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s/PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
  • Strong engineering principals as well as analyzing chemical and physical properties of materials to draw scientific conclusions
  • Acquired 2+ years of experience in University and/or previous internships or coops
  • Comfortable using test instrumentation and equipment in and out of a lab environment
  • Able to successfully perform the minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation

Through this role you will gain meaningful, hands-on experience working for a HealthTech company.

Your role:

As a Co-op Biological Safety Engineer within the Biocompatibility Group, you will contribute directly to the design and development of new respiratory care products—including CPAPs, ventilators, respiratory masks, drug delivery devices, oxygen concentrators, and respiratory care accessories.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting biological safety evaluations of materials, components, and finished devices used in sleep and respiratory care products, under direct supervision.
  • Assisting in reviewing material composition data, supplier documentation, and manufacturing process information to support biological risk assessments and compliance with ISO 10993, ISO 18562, and other related medical device regulatory standards.
  • Conducting verification and validation testing, analyzing material stability, and providing data to guide product development decisions.
  • Organizing, tracking, and curating biological safety data and test reports to ensure traceability and accessibility for ongoing and future evaluations.
  • Contributing to the development of Biological Evaluation Plans (BEPs) and Biological Evaluation Reports (BERs) by compiling background data, drafting sections, and ensuring adherence to applicable standards and company policies.

  • Your skills include strong engineering principals as well as analyzing chemical and physical properties of materials to draw scientific conclusions.
  • You’ve acquired 2+ years of experience in University and/or previous internships or coops and you are comfortable using test instrumentation and equipment in and out of a lab environment.

  • You thrive in a collaborative environment and can work effectively across technical disciplines, external partners, and global teams.

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

Philips Transparency Details

The hourly pay range for this position is Bachelors: $25.00 to $29.00, Masters/PhD $35-$45 plus overtime eligible. The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
