Job Summary

Lanterns, an independent studio in Tunis, Tunisia, is seeking a Concept Artist/Storyboarder to design art concepts, create environments, characters, objects, and atmospheres, and produce storyboards for comics. The role involves breaking down scripts visually, collaborating with the team, and using digital drawing tools to bring compelling stories to life. A strong portfolio is essential for consideration.

Must Have

  • Sketch, draw, and design art concepts to bring the vision of the director to life
  • Create environments, characters, objects, and atmospheres to define the visual style of the comics
  • Produce storyboards to plan out the flow of the comic, including key scenes, camera angles, and character poses
  • Break down scripts into visual elements, ensuring clear storytelling through illustrations
  • Collaborate with writers and the team to balance the visual narrative and dialogue
  • Proficiency in using digital drawing tools like Clip Studio Paint, Adobe Photoshop, or other software
  • Develop rough sketches and refine them into polished artwork for final production
  • Make necessary changes to ensure the work aligns with the artistic vision
  • Strong drawing and illustration skills, with a solid portfolio demonstrating concept art proficiency
  • Experience in creating character designs, environments, and objects
  • Knowledge of anatomy, architectural elements, and mechanical design
  • Strong understanding of image composition and storytelling through visuals
  • Ability to adapt styles and work within the artistic direction of the project
  • Keen observation and research skills to inform and enhance your artwork
  • Ability to communicate ideas visually and verbally within a team
  • Comfortable working in an iterative process, with an openness to feedback and revisions

Good to Have

  • Familiarity with 3D software for reference or integration

The daily life of a Concept Artist at Lanterns:

  • Sketch, draw, and design art concepts to bring the vision of the director to life.
  • Create environments, characters, objects, and atmospheres to define the visual style of the comics.
  • Produce storyboards to plan out the flow of the comic, including key scenes, camera angles, and character poses.
  • Break down scripts into visual elements, ensuring clear storytelling through illustrations.
  • Collaborate with writers and the team to balance the visual narrative and dialogue.
  • Proficiency in using digital drawing tools like Clip Studio Paint, Adobe Photoshop, or other software commonly used in comics production (e.g., Procreate, Krita).
  • Develop rough sketches and refine them into polished artwork for final production.
  • Make necessary changes to ensure the work aligns with the artistic vision.
  • Carry out all other related tasks involved in comic production.
