Job Summary

Kavaliro is seeking a Controller / CFO & Office Manager for a growing multi-division construction organization. This role involves leading all accounting and financial operations, serving as a strategic partner to executive leadership, and overseeing operational aspects. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned construction finance leader capable of both strategic planning and day-to-day execution in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Must Have

  • Direct all accounting functions (GAAP, AP, AR, payroll, GL, reporting)
  • Oversee cash management and forecasting
  • Prepare and review financial statements
  • Manage WIP, job costing, over/under billings, percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure tax and reporting compliance
  • Develop and execute financial strategies
  • Provide financial modeling, forecasting, and risk analysis
  • Oversee office operations
  • Supervise accounting/payroll staff
  • Construction accounting experience required
  • Proven senior financial leadership (Controller/CFO level)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • 10+ years progressive accounting/finance experience
  • 5+ years senior financial leadership
  • Deep understanding of construction financial operations, revenue recognition, and bonding

Good to Have

  • CPA and/or CMA strongly preferred
  • MBA a plus

Overview

Kavaliro is partnering with a growing, multi-division organization in the construction sector to identify a Controller / CFO & Office Manager. This individual will lead all accounting and financial operations while serving as a strategic partner to executive leadership. The role combines hands-on financial leadership with operational oversight in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Finance Leadership

  • Direct all accounting functions in accordance with GAAP, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting
  • Oversee cash management, bank relationships, credit cards, and daily cash flow forecasting
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements
  • Manage WIP schedules, over/under billings, job cost transfers, and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax and reporting requirements
  • Maintain internal controls and financial safeguards
  • Coordinate audits and act as primary liaison with auditors and financial partners
  • Support licensing, insurance renewals, credit applications, and corporate filings

CFO / Strategic Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with long-term business goals
  • Provide financial modeling, forecasting, and risk analysis
  • Advise executive leadership on capital structure, financing options, and strategic initiatives
  • Analyze variances, monitor budgets, and provide actionable insights to leadership
  • Present financial results and recommendations to senior leadership

Office & Operational Management

  • Oversee office operations, supplies, equipment, and facility coordination
  • Act as primary contact for vendors, landlords, and service providers
  • Maintain a professional, organized office environment

Leadership & Team Support

  • Supervise accounting/payroll staff and collaborate closely with HR
  • Serve as a key member of the leadership team
  • Promote a collaborative, accountable, and values-driven culture

Qualifications

  • Construction accounting experience required
  • Strong background in WIP, job costing, and over/under billing
  • Proven experience in senior financial leadership (Controller, Director of Finance, or CFO level)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead both strategically and tactically
  • Experience working with auditors, banks, and external financial partners

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (required)
  • CPA and/or CMA strongly preferred; MBA a plus
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
  • 5+ years in senior financial leadership
  • Deep understanding of construction financial operations, revenue recognition, and bonding
