Job Description

Rackspace Technology is seeking an experienced Data Services Administrator for its Professional Services Team, focusing on managing and maintaining cloud data services platforms in private cloud environments. The role requires expertise in database management and data services at scale, with the ability to work across multiple data technologies and platforms. Responsibilities include managing and maintaining enterprise data services platforms (preferably Portworx Data Services), supporting various data technologies (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB), monitoring performance and capacity, implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies, troubleshooting complex issues, ensuring high uptime, provisioning and managing data services, implementing security best practices, optimizing performance, managing the data service lifecycle, participating in on-call rotations, documenting processes, and collaborating with security teams.

Good To Have:

Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash)
Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools
Experience with Portworx or container-native storage
Knowledge of data service performance tuning
Familiarity with compliance frameworks
Experience with GitOps workflows

Must Have:

Manage enterprise data services platforms
Support multiple data technologies (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB)
Monitor platform health and performance
Implement backup, disaster recovery, and HA
Troubleshoot platform issues
Ensure high uptime and meet SLAs
Provision and manage data services
Implement data security best practices
Optimize data service performance

3+ years of experience in data infrastructure/DBA
Manage production data services at scale
Experience with Linux and Windows Server
Knowledge of Kubernetes administration
Proficiency in data service administration
Understanding of networking, storage, security in containers

Responsibilities

Manage and maintain enterprise data services platforms and infrastructure, preferably Portworx Data Services (PDS)
Support multiple data technologies (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.)
Monitor platform health, performance metrics, and capacity planning across multiple data technologies
Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and high availability strategies
Troubleshoot complex platform issues and coordinate resolution efforts
Ensure high uptime and meet established SLA requirements for data services
Provision and manage various data services including databases, caching layers, and message queues
Implement data security best practices, access controls, and compliance requirements
Optimize data service performance, storage utilization, and resource allocation
Manage data service lifecycle including upgrades, patches, and migrations
Participate in on-call rotation for critical platform support
Document processes, procedures, and architectural decisions
Collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure regulatory adherence

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field
3+ years of experience in data infrastructure and database administration
Experience managing production data services environments at scale
Good experience with Linux operating systems (preferably Ubuntu/Debian) and Windows Server administration
Good knowledge in Kubernetes administration and container orchestration
Proficiency with data service administration across multiple technologies (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, etc.)
Good understanding of networking, storage, and security principles in containerized environments
Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools
