Database Administrator

Redhorse Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to support mission-critical systems for a federal customer. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining large-scale SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments, ensuring reliability, performance, and security. The administrator will sustain data operations, improve database performance, and support operational readiness across enterprise systems, playing a key part in critical data management.

Must Have

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain large-scale Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases.
• Develop, optimize, and maintain stored procedures, database models, and data structures.
• Leverage third-party database tools like Red Gate for administration and performance.
• Implement and maintain high-availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery architectures.
• Troubleshoot and debug issues in production Windows desktop application environments.
• Conduct query performance tuning and streamline data processing operations.
• Monitor database health, capacity, and performance for 24/7 availability.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
• Demonstrated expertise in performance tuning, query debugging, stored procedures, indexing, and data modeling.
• Familiarity with Red Gate or similar database administration tools.
• Experience implementing disaster recovery, backup, and high-availability solutions.
• Active Top Secret clearance required.
• Ability to provide on-call support for mission-critical database systems.

Good to Have

• Professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator or PostgreSQL Professional Certification.
• Experience managing cloud-based database services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL).
• Familiarity with federal security standards, including FISMA and NIST frameworks.

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain large-scale Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases in operational environments.
• Develop, optimize, and maintain stored procedures, database models, and data structures to support application and analytics needs.
• Leverage third-party database tools (e.g., Red Gate) to enhance administration, versioning, and performance workflows.
• Implement and maintain high-availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery architectures to support mission-critical operations.
• Troubleshoot and debug issues within production Windows desktop application environments and supporting database services.
• Conduct query performance tuning, execute bulk data loading, and streamline data processing operations.
• Monitor database health, capacity, and performance to sustain 24/7 availability and ensure compliance with security and mission requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL in production environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in:
• Performance tuning and optimization
• Query debugging and issue resolution
• Stored procedures, indexing strategies, and data modeling
• Bulk-loading techniques and data movement
• Familiarity with Red Gate or similar database administration tools.
• Experience implementing disaster recovery, backup, and high-availability solutions.
• Active Top Secret clearance required.
• Ability to provide on-call support for mission-critical database systems.

Preferred Qualifications
