Job Summary
The Electrician will be responsible for building and rebuilding locomotives and locomotive assemblies. This role requires performing essential duties such as reading electrical schematics, operating test equipment, designing basic circuits, installing components, and managing wiring and cabling. The individual must also be able to drill, tap, clean, sandblast, and paint parts, understand FRA rules, and interact with customers. The position demands strong technical skills and the ability to work with heavy equipment.
Must Have
- Five years equivalent experience building and/or maintaining heavy equipment
- Strong understanding of locomotive maintenance and repair
- Ability to travel extensively
- Proficiency in reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Ability to communicate verbally with others
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to read electrical schematics
- Ability to operate electrical test equipment
- Ability to design basic electrical circuits
- Ability to install electrical components
- Ability to run and terminate wiring
- Ability to cut and install cabling
- Ability to pull wire harnesses through conduit
- Ability to drill and tap holes

Locomotive Electrician to build and rebuild locomotives and locomotive assemblies.

What do we want to know about you?
Five years equivalent experience building and/or maintaining heavy equiepment. Strong understanding of locomotive maintenance and repair; manufacturing experience a plus.
Preferred experience working with diesel engines, propulsion and pneumatics in large industry such as, Rail, Agriculture, Mining, Marine, etc.
Ability to travel extensively.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and may be required to wear a respirator. The employee is occasionally required to work at heights and maybe exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration from operating hand held pneumatic wrenches. The noise level in the work environment is usually above 85 decibels and hearing protection along with other personal protective equipment will be required to be worn.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between $30.00 - $35.00 per hour. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
