Engineer Internship: Intelligent RF Error Detection and Correction: AI & Embedded Auto-calibration
NXP
Job Summary
The 'Radio Firmware' team in Caen is responsible for providing embedded software (firmware) for NXP's NFC and UWB components, used in mobile phones and connected objects for communication. The team constantly develops and improves automated testing tools and methods for effective software validation. This 6-month final year internship focuses on developing and optimizing component testing and calibration processes in the 'WLC' environment, including an auto-calibration algorithm for a robot and an AI-assisted diagnostic tool for RF communication failures.
Must Have
- Analyze RF communication failures: identify error cases, define re-test criteria, and trigger conditions for recalibration.
- Specify, implement, and validate the calibration method: algorithm design, software development, and functional tests.
- Integrate the algorithm into the automated re-test process: adapt test sequences for dynamic calibration.
- Develop a diagnostic tool for failure cases, incorporating AI-assisted analysis capabilities.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C/C++.
- Understanding of embedded systems architectures.
- Solid knowledge of radiofrequency (RF) communication.
- Experience or interest in automated testing frameworks.
- Basic knowledge of AI for data processing and diagnostic tools.
Good to Have
- Rigor, autonomy, and analytical skills.
- Good technical communication skills (specifications, documentation, reporting).
- Initiative and technological curiosity.
- Fluent French.
- Technical English (reading documentation, writing reports).
Perks & Benefits
- Online and offline learning opportunities for core and professional skills.
- Commitment to sustainability.
- Inclusive work environment.
- Programs focused on diversity, inclusion, and equality.
Job Description
Context
The "Radio Firmware" team, based in Caen, is responsible for providing the embedded software (firmware) necessary for the operation of NFC and UWB components designed by NXP. These components, widely distributed, equip a majority of mobile phones and connected objects, allowing them to communicate (banking transactions, localization, data exchange, etc.). High-performance and automated testing tools and methods must constantly be developed and improved to ensure effective validation of this software.
We are looking for a final year intern in this field for a period of 6 months.
Missions
Mission proposed to the engineering intern:
The intern will contribute to the development and optimization of component testing and calibration processes in the "WLC" environment. After a phase of familiarization with the tools and the technical framework, notably through the creation of new automated test scenarios, he/she will take charge of developing an auto-calibration algorithm for a robot.
This project will proceed according to the following steps:
- Analysis of RF communication failures: identification of error cases, definition of re-test criteria, and conditions for triggering the recalibration procedure.
- Specification, implementation, and validation of the calibration method: algorithm design, software development, and functional tests.
- Integration of the algorithm into the automated re-test process: adaptation of test sequences to include dynamic calibration.
- Development of a diagnostic aid tool for failure cases, integrating artificial intelligence-assisted analysis capabilities.
This mission will allow the intern to mobilize skills in programming, diagnosis and processing of RF communication failures, particularly in embedded systems subject to high reliability, robustness, and performance requirements, as well as in test automation and the integration of artificial intelligence solutions in an industrial environment.
