Job Summary

Thales is seeking a Hardware Architect in Rungis, France, to join the Technical Competence Center within the Hardware department. The role involves elaborating, stabilizing, and maintaining hardware architectures for air traffic management and protection systems, ensuring compliance with standards, reuse policies, and technological roadmaps. The architect will be responsible for technical leadership, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, managing specifications, and making design choices based on cost, supply chain, client requirements, and technological possibilities throughout the project lifecycle, from offer to delivery.

Must Have

  • Elaborate, Stabilize and Maintain Hardware architectures to satisfy stakeholder expectations.
  • Comply with standards, reuse policies, technological roadmap, and corporate strategy.
  • Implement architecture choices based on compromises between costs, Supply Chain, client requirements, and technological possibilities.
  • Identify risks and opportunities related to hardware architecture, propose and implement risk reduction plans.
  • Draft associated documents (architecture justification, product breakdown structure, system design document).
  • Validate resulting lower-level characteristics (internal or external).
  • Manage the definition of corresponding level specifications.
  • Manage the evaluation of performance and critical parameters.
  • Define interfaces and technical negotiation between different stakeholders (internal or external).
  • Participate in drafting the 'Technical Solution Description' and 'Design Validation Form' for offers.
  • Possess a general engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Justify 10 years of experience in the field.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the domain, its technical strategy, and standards (MIL STD…).
  • Be familiar with Hardware design / conception.
  • Master Design to Cost (DtC).
  • Be capable of working in co-engineering (Lean Thinking, Obeya...).
  • Have oral and written English skills (international clients).
  • Possess knowledge in subcontracting management 'Make or Buy'.
  • Be familiar with Concept, Design, Experimentation and Simulation tools, as well as modeling tools (MBSE, ARCADIA, CREO, Autocad…).
  • Have good knowledge of the professions within a design office.
  • Possess knowledge in hardware product construction including IT/network equipment (Routers, server Firewall…).

The Technical Competence Center is recruiting a Hardware Architect for Rungis through the Hardware department.

As such, you will be hierarchically responsible to the HoD for technical aspects and functionally responsible to an EDM within the framework of project activities.

You will be responsible for the proper application of processes, practices, and tools in your domain and will carry the business strategy within the project.

You will also be technically responsible for the hardware architecture of the developed solution. You will coordinate with a multidisciplinary team and the Project Design Authority (PDA) to ensure the consistency of the architecture with hardware, industrial, and purchasing strategies.

As an Offers and Projects Hardware Architect (M/F), you will be responsible for:

  • Elaborating, Stabilizing, and Maintaining Hardware architectures to satisfy stakeholder expectations, in accordance with standards and reuse policies, the technological roadmap, and the company's strategy for all phases of the lifecycle, from offer to hardware delivery.
  • Implementing architecture choices based on compromises between cost, Supply Chain, client requirements, and technological possibilities. Identify risks and opportunities related to hardware architecture, propose and implement risk reduction plans and validation of opportunities.
  • Drafting associated documents (architecture justification in the design and justification file, product breakdown structure, system design document) and validating the resulting lower-level characteristics (internal or external).
  • Assisting in the solution development cycle and the definition of the co-engineering approach.
  • Managing, throughout the project lifecycle, the definition of corresponding level specifications, the management of performance and critical parameter evaluation, the definition of interfaces, technical negotiation between the different stakeholders (internal or external).
  • More specifically in the context of offers, participating in the drafting of the 'Technical Solution Description' which describes the proposed solution within the framework of the offer and allows for costing (focused on Design to COST) as well as the 'Design Validation Form'.

Your profile

You have a general engineering degree or equivalent and justify 10 years of experience that has allowed you to apply the following knowledge and skills:

  • You have in-depth knowledge of the domain and its technical strategy as well as domain standards (MIL STD…).
  • You are familiar with Hardware design / conception.
  • You master Design to Cost (DtC).
  • You are capable of working in co-engineering (Lean Thinking, Obeya...).
  • Oral and written English (international clients).

Your ability to lead, motivate, and unite multidisciplinary teams around a common technical vision, to give meaning and inspire confidence even in crisis or technical uncertainty; your ability to clarify/negotiate the technical scope of the solution with the client to reduce technical risks and costs (design to cost); your ability to make decisions while measuring risks, prioritize, assume and argue your choices, including in urgency or discomfort; your aptitude to arbitrate, resolve technical or organizational disagreements, find balanced compromises and defuse tense situations; your ease in explaining, popularizing, arguing based on facts and experience and defending technical choices in front of heterogeneous interlocutors; and finally your ability to express your point of view firmly, without aggression and to find the right balance between firmness and openness when the client insists are assets that are recognized in you?
