Job Description

As the Head of Agile Delivery in Mercer PDE, you will enhance Agile teams' day-to-day delivery capabilities. Your role involves navigating complex challenges, ensuring organizational preparedness for new demands, and implementing strategies for continuous improvement. You will manage the pipeline of new strategic demand, driving efficiency and effectiveness in delivery processes. This position requires fostering collaboration, innovation, and a culture of continuous improvement across all delivery teams, aligning efforts with strategic organizational goals.
Must have:
  • Support Agile teams with expert guidance and daily delivery.
  • Manage Pod and Squad Leads.
  • Develop and implement strategies for improving delivery flow efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Identify bottlenecks and areas for enhancement in delivery processes.
  • Oversee management of new demand pipeline.
  • Prioritize incoming requests aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Establish clear plans for timely and successful delivery.
  • Ensure organizational preparedness for new demand.
  • Assess and enhance capabilities, tools, and resources.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement solutions.
  • Foster continuous improvement across all delivery teams.
  • Encourage adoption of Agile practices and mindsets.
  • Work closely with business leaders to align delivery with strategic goals.
  • Communicate effectively to keep all parties informed and engaged.
  • Manage and oversee portfolio plans for engineering and delivery transformation.
Good to have:
  • Scaled agile leadership and transformation qualifications (e.g., SAFe SPC, ASPC, Lean Portfolio Management, Certified Agile Leader)
  • Significant experience in various technology roles, ideally with a development engineering background
  • Rounded and holistic understanding of Agile Methodologies, certifications such as CSP, KMP & ICP-ACC, SAFe SPC or ASPC, Lean Portfolio Management, Certified Agile Leader
  • Strong financial acumen to apply Financial Management Disciplines and be accountable for Engineering Delivery spend reporting and tracking
  • Vendor management experience to ensure vendors are fit for purpose for cross-functional teams

What can you expect:

As the Head of Agile Delivery in Mercer PDE you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our Agile teams' day-to-day delivery capabilities. Your expertise will be essential in navigating complex challenges and ensuring that our organization is well-prepared to meet new demands effectively. You will be responsible for implementing practical strategies that drive continuous improvement in our delivery processes while managing our pipeline of new strategic demand.

We will count on you to:

  • Support Agile Teams: Act as a key resource for our Agile teams, providing expert guidance and support in their daily delivery activities. Help them navigate challenging problems and foster a culture of collaboration and innovation. You will have line management responsibilities for our Pod and Squad Leads
  • Delivery Improvement Strategies: Develop and implement practical advice and strategies aimed at improving delivery flow, both in efficiency and effectiveness. Work closely with teams to identify bottlenecks and areas for enhancement, ensuring that they can meet their commitments.
  • Demand Management: Oversee the management of our pipeline of new demand, ensuring that all incoming requests are prioritized and aligned with our strategic objectives. Establish clear plans and processes to facilitate timely and successful delivery.
  • Organizational Preparedness: Ensure that our organization is fully prepared to handle new demand by assessing and enhancing our capabilities, tools, and resources. Collaborate with stakeholders to identify gaps and implement solutions that empower our teams to deliver high-quality results.
  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement across all delivery teams. Encourage teams to adopt Agile practices and mindsets (from whichever framework is appropriate) that enhance their ability to deliver the flow of value to our customers.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with business leaders and stakeholders to align delivery with strategic organizational goals. Communicate effectively to ensure that all parties are informed and engaged in the delivery process.
  • Transformation Management: Manage and oversee portfolio plans for engineering and delivery transformation optimising for flow.

What you need to have:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategies for improving delivery flow efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Strong organizational skills with experience in managing demand pipelines and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels of the organization.
  • A solid understanding of Agile methodologies and practices, with a commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Significant experience of a wide range of technology roles is desirable, ideally with some form of development engineering background.
  • Financial acumen and ability to manage budgets and carry out cost analysis.

  • Scaled agile leadership and transformation qualifications, e.g. SAFe SPC or ASPC, Lean Portfolio Management, Certified Agile Leader, etc.
  • Significant experience of a wide range of technology roles is desirable, ideally with some form of development engineering background.
  • Rounded and holistic understanding of Agile Methodologies, certifications such as CSP, KMP & ICP-ACC, SAFe SPC or ASPC, Lean Portfolio.
  • Management, Certified Agile Leader would be an advantage but are not essential.
  • Strong financial acumen - ability to apply Financial Management Disciplines into our team, to be accountable for Engineering Delivery spend reporting and tracking.
  • Vendor management experience to ensure our vendors are fit for purpose for the cross-functional teams we are building.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $154,400 to $308,800.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
