JetBrains is seeking an HR Generalist in Madrid, Spain, to be the key HR contact for local colleagues. This role involves setting up HR processes from scratch, ensuring compliance with local requirements, and fostering a positive workplace. Responsibilities include managing the employee lifecycle, ensuring legal compliance, cooperating with external providers, and supporting visa/immigration matters. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of HR experience in an international company, strong knowledge of Spanish labor law, and fluency in Spanish and English.

Must Have:
  • Act as first point of contact for all HR matters in Spain.
  • Support the entire employee lifecycle (hiring, onboarding, development, offboarding).
  • Ensure compliance with Spanish labor laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain employment documentation.
  • Cooperate with local authorities and external service providers.
  • Partner with global HR, legal, and finance teams.
  • Provide consultation to managers and employees on HR topics.
  • Support colleagues with visa and immigration matters.
  • Contribute to employer branding and local talent market presence.
  • Help ensure smooth office operations.
  • 4+ years of experience as an HR Generalist in an international company.
  • Strong knowledge of Spanish labor law, payroll, and local employment practices.
  • Hands-on experience working with local authorities and external agencies.
  • Ability to manage a broad spectrum of tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proactive, self-driven, and comfortable working independently.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English (both spoken and written).

This role offers a unique opportunity: you will be the key HR contact for colleagues in Spain, setting up processes from scratch, ensuring compliance with local requirements, and helping create a great workplace environment.

As part of our team, you will:

  • Act as the first point of contact for all HR matters in Spain and represent the HR function locally.
  • Support the entire employee lifecycle: hiring, onboarding, development, and offboarding.
  • Ensure compliance with Spanish labor laws and regulations; prepare and maintain employment documentation.
  • Cooperate with local authorities and external service providers (legal, payroll, benefits, relocation, etc.).
  • Partner with our global HR, legal, and finance teams to implement global policies and adapt them to the Spanish context.
  • Provide consultation to managers and employees on HR topics, including contracts, compensation, benefits, and employee relations.
  • Support colleagues with visa and immigration matters, including the preparation of documentation, cooperation with external providers, and communication with local authorities.
  • Contribute to employer branding and local talent market presence.
  • Help ensure smooth office operations by coordinating with vendors, supporting local events and meetings, and maintaining a comfortable working environment.
  • Perform other duties as designated from time to time.

We’d like to see you on our team if you have:

  • 4+ years of experience as an HR Generalist, HR Manager, or similar role in an international company.
  • Strong knowledge of Spanish labor law, payroll, and local employment practices.
  • Hands-on experience working with local authorities and external agencies.
  • Practical knowledge of the Spanish immigration system and experience handling work/residence permits is a strong plus.
  • The ability to manage a broad spectrum of tasks – from administrative to strategic.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build trust and act as a go-to person for employees.
  • A Proactive, self-driven nature, and are comfortable working independently as the first HR hire in the location.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English (both spoken and written).
