Job Description

This internship at Thales's Gennevilliers Campus involves a comparative study and analysis of Maintenance in Security Condition (MCS) tools and Information System (SI) security. The intern will identify and document MCS tools, define comparison criteria, deploy solutions in a test environment, and analyze results by comparing detected versus missed vulnerabilities and identifying false positives. The role requires calculating performance metrics and proposing recommendations for tool integration and process improvements, contributing to continuous security enhancement and risk reduction.
Must Have:
  • Identify and document main MCS tools
  • Define comparison criteria for MCS tools
  • Deploy and configure MCS solutions in a test environment
  • Feed tools with known vulnerability data (CVE)
  • Compare detected vs. missed vulnerabilities
  • Identify false positives generated by each tool
  • Calculate performance metrics (detection rate, false positives, etc.)
  • Produce a synthesis of tool advantages/disadvantages
  • Propose orientations for tool integration and improvements
  • Basic knowledge in cybersecurity and vulnerability management (CVE, CVSS)
  • Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools
  • Proficiency in a scripting language (Python, bash, powershell)
  • Analytical rigor and critical thinking
  • Ability to write clear documentation and present results
  • Currently pursuing a BAC+5 level higher education in IT/Cybersecurity

Build a future of trust together

Thales is a global high-tech leader specializing in three sectors: Defense & Security, Aerospace & Space, and Cyber & Digital. It develops products and solutions that contribute to a safer, more environmentally friendly, and more inclusive world. The Group invests nearly 4 billion euros per year in Research & Development, particularly in key innovation areas such as AI, cybersecurity, quantum, cloud technologies, and 6G. Thales has nearly 81,000 employees in 68 countries.

Our commitments, your benefits

  • Our technological expertise
  • Our attention to employee balance
  • An inclusive and benevolent environment
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index…)

Your daily life

The Gennevilliers Campus is the heart of design, development, and support activities for major defense systems: radio communications, resilient network and infrastructure systems, satellite communications, collaborative combat, and cybersecurity. Located north of Paris, it is quickly accessible by public transport.

In a context where infrastructures and information systems face increasingly complex threats, ensuring their continuous security is paramount. Security Condition Maintenance (MCS) encompasses vulnerability monitoring, evaluation, and tracking of false positives and alert quality. This internship is part of a continuous improvement approach for security processes, risk reduction, and reliability of the tools used.

Your missions

You will be responsible for conducting a comparative study of MCS tools, according to several criteria, then analyzing the results to propose recommendations. Among the tasks:

State of the art

  • Identify and document the main MCS tools
  • Define comparison criteria (ease of installation and operation, ergonomics, cost, volume of false positives, etc.)

Implementation in a test environment

  • Deploy and configure several solutions on a representative scope.
  • Feed these tools with known vulnerability data (CVE).

Analysis of results

  • Compare detected vulnerabilities vs. missed vulnerabilities.
  • Identify false positives generated by each tool.
  • Calculate metrics: detection rate, false positive rate, false negative rate, specificity/sensitivity, processing time, etc.

Synthesis and documentation

  • Finally, produce a summary of the advantages/disadvantages of each tool according to the criteria.
  • Propose orientations: which one(s) to integrate, possible improvements, configurations/practices to favor, etc.
  • Potentially design a performance monitoring dashboard for the tools (KPIs).

Your profile

You are currently pursuing a BAC+5 level higher education specializing in IT/Cybersecurity.

You have skills such as:

  • Basic knowledge in cybersecurity, and vulnerability management (CVE, CVSS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with one or more vulnerability scanning tools
  • Proficiency in a scripting language (Python, bash, powershell) to automate certain tasks
  • Analytical rigor and critical thinking
  • Ability to write clear documentation and present results.

A word from the team

This internship will be an opportunity for you to work in a team within an innovative company, to apply academic knowledge in an operational environment, and to develop new skills.

All our internships are conventioned and subject to remuneration, the amount of which is determined according to your level of study. As the position may require access to information classified as national defense secret, the selected person will undergo a security clearance procedure, in accordance with the provisions of articles R.2311-1 et seq. of the Defense Code and IGI 1300 SGDSN/PSE of August 9, 2021.

Thales, a Handi-Engaged company, recognizes all talents. Diversity is our best asset. Apply and join us!
