Job Description

This internship at Thales Alenia Space in Toulouse focuses on the valorization of composite fabric scraps. The intern will analyze existing composite parts, identify potential new parts that can be manufactured from scraps, and propose a cost-effective industrialization method for their reuse. The role involves technical analysis, design, and reporting within the Electronic Industry Competence Center's Composite service.

Your daily life

The Toulouse site is responsible for satellite system engineering, the design and production of payloads, as well as the development and qualification of ground segments. It integrates a research center and an industrial accelerator for start-ups and ventures.

Thales Alenia Space manufactures reflectors (between 1m and 3.5m in diameter) as well as antenna structures for telecom and observation satellites. The materials used are composite (assembly of an aluminum or carbon honeycomb structure, and carbon skins).

During your internship, you will join the Electronic Industry Competence Center and its Composite service, composed of about a dozen people.

Your main missions are:

Analysis of composite parts:

  • Identify the different composite parts used at Thales.
  • Note their technical characteristics and dimensions.

Study of scrap reuse:

  • See which parts can be manufactured with fabric scraps.
  • Suggest possible uses according to production.

Proposal for industrialization:

  • Find a cost-effective industrialization method compared to current solutions.
  • Write a report on the solutions and their advantages.

Your profile

Are you preparing for a bac +4 degree with a specialization in composite materials and looking for a 3/4 month internship?

You have knowledge in:

  • composite part manufacturing methods
  • CATIA V5 software
  • technical analysis of materials and manufacturing processes
  • mold studies and computer-aided design

Are you sensitive to waste reduction and sustainability issues?
