Job Summary
The Global General Affairs (GGA) team aims to maximize real estate value, manage property locations, workspace planning, and operational facilities. They also oversee global insurance and crisis management. The Manager - Business Continuity Planning ensures Springer Nature's Crisis Management Organisation and business continuity plans are effective, up-to-date, and compliant with ISO 22301:2019 standards. This role facilitates BCP implementation across key locations and critical business areas, supporting the Crisis Management Team in response and preparedness initiatives.
Must Have
- Ensure Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) and Business Continuity Plan (BCP) Risk Assessments are undertaken globally.
- Ensure effective BCPs are in place across all key locations, business divisions, and support functions.
- Ensure all business continuity documentation is reviewed, maintained, updated, and tested regularly.
- Ensure appropriate business continuity training and awareness activities.
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for business continuity matters.
- Consolidate, report, and utilize valuable information from BCP activities for operational resilience.
- Act as an ambassador for business continuity and promote best practice.
- Provide effective communications regarding business continuity updates.
- Ensure established Crisis Management Teams (CMTs) meet Global CMT (GCMT) and Local CMT (LCMT) Terms of Reference.
- Support GCMT and LCMTs with crisis management expertise and recommendations.
- Ensure crisis management documentation is reviewed, maintained, updated, and tested regularly.
- Ensure appropriate crisis management training and awareness activities.
- Support CMTs during a live crisis.
- Support the SN Global Crisis Communications Tool, Send Word Now.
- Monitor incidents and crises and update the incident tracker.
- Minimum of three years working in business continuity.
- Proven, demonstrable achievements in business continuity disciplines.
- Producing internal communications.
- Working with Local & Global internal teams at all levels.
- Evaluating and rolling out small and large scale projects.
- Working with, and managing, costs and budgets.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good presentation skills.
- Hands-on experience of Microsoft Office.
- Degree and DRII or CBCI MBCI certified, or ISO 22301 or equivalent.
Good to Have
- Knowledge and experience in crisis management.
- Experience with other MS365 applications.

About the Us
The core purpose of the Global General Affairs (GGA) team is to maximize the value of real estate to our business, ensuring that we occupy the right space at the most affordable cost. Our work ranges from the major strategic decisions about property locations, commitments and costs, workspace planning and removal programs, through to the operational facilities services necessary for everyone to work productively every day in the office. We also manage the global insurance program, the global crisis management organisation for Springer Nature and are co-responsible for health & safety.
Purpose of the Role
Ensure that Springer Nature’s Crisis Management Organisation and business continuity planning activities are adequate, effective, up-to-date and fit for purpose. Facilitate the implementation and maintenance of Business Continuity Plans across key SN locations and critical business areas, in alignment with ISO 22301:2019 standards. Support the established Crisis Management Team in executing crisis response activities and preparedness initiatives.
Responsibilities
Business Continuity Planning:
- Ensure Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) and Business Continuity Plan (BCP) Risk Assessments have been undertaken in all [key] locations globally;
- Ensure effective BCPs are in place globally, across all [key] locations, business divisions and support functions;
- Ensure all business continuity documentation is reviewed, maintained and updated, and tested/exercised on a regular basis;
- Ensure appropriate business continuity training and awareness activities take place across the organisation;
- Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for business continuity matters, and provide support to any locations/teams where business continuity knowledge or experience may be more limited
- Ensure that valuable information gathered during business continuity planning activities across the business is consolidated, reported on and utilized for improving SN’s operational resilience overall;
- Act as an ambassador for business continuity across the organisation, and promote best practice at all times;
- Provide effective communications with GGA Management team, internal departments and external service providers, and all levels of the business, regarding business continuity and any proposed updates or changes;
- Any other ad hoc duties as appropriate.
- Limited international travel and working out-of-hours may be required. Work hours may be adjusted to align with stakeholder time zones, ensuring effective collaboration and timely support across regions
Crisis Management:
- Ensure established Crisis Management Teams (CMTs) meet the requirements of the Global CMT (GCMT) and Local CMT (LCMT) Terms of Reference;
- Support the GCMT and LCMTs by providing expertise relating to crisis management best practice, and make recommendations for improvements where required;
- Ensure crisis management documentation in all locations is reviewed, maintained and updated, and tested/exercised regularly;
- Ensure appropriate crisis management training and awareness activities take place across the organisation;
- Support CMTs during a live crisis where required;
- Support the SN Global Crisis Communications Tool, Send Word Now. GGA SWN Admin support, to ensure training is provided for new LCMT members and Tests are held annually.
- Monitor incidents, crises in SN locations in particular and wherever possible and update the incident tracker.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Solid Experience of:
- Minimum of three years working in business continuity.
- Proven, demonstrable achievements in business continuity disciplines.
- Having knowledge and experience in crisis management is a plus.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Producing internal communications and working with Local & Global internal teams at all levels of the business.
- Evaluating and rolling out small and large scale projects – locally and globally.
- Working with, and managing, costs and budgets.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good presentation skills.
- Hands-on experience of Microsoft Office - other MS365 applications a plus.
Qualifications
- Degree and DRII or CBCI MBCI certified, or ISO 22301 or equivalent. Demonstrably excellent technical skills and knowledge.
