CAE is seeking a Naval Operations Training SME - IBNS to join their Training Systems Integration (TSI) naval team. This role involves providing military naval operational and training expertise, leading in naval training systems, and offering specialized advice for developing naval training solutions. Must Have

  • Provide military naval operational and training experience to the TSI naval team.
  • Lead in naval training systems.
  • Provide specialized advice during the development of naval training solutions.
  • Extensive experience in the naval environment.
  • Expertise in various naval areas, maritime systems, and/or naval instructor assignments.
  • Knowledge of CFITES or similar System Approach to Training (SAT).
  • Knowledge of CAF Military Employment Structure and Framework.
  • Knowledge of modern training techniques and technologies.
  • Extensive experience within the Royal Canada Navy (RCN) or similar national naval service.
  • Ability to use Windows-based computers and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Meet Canada Controlled Goods Program (CGP) requirements.
  • Hold a Level II (NATO SECRET) Security Clearance.
  • Meet ITAR requirements.
  • Work in Canada (Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or valid Work Permit).
  • Prepare, plan, and execute naval training system solutions.
  • Research maritime industry developments for training solutions.
  • Apply RCN knowledge to support Integrated Training Solution Lead.
  • Ensure training solutions align with FNTS and CONOPS.
  • Perform trade studies for training solutions.
  • Identify and analyze risks and opportunities.
  • Articulate solution features and benefits in proposals.
  • Create and maintain Training & Test Procedures, scenarios, lesson plans.
  • Test training systems for design, training, and project requirements.
  • Provide input to Naval Business Development Teams.
  • Assist with estimates for Bids and Proposals.
  • Identify and resolve training system defects.

Good to Have

  • Naval Warfare Officer with extensive warship bridge experience.
  • Operations Room Officer (ORO)/Tactical Action Officer (TAO) qualification and one full tour as an ORO/TAO or equivalent.
  • Fleet Navigating Officer (FNO) qualification with major warship operational service assignment.
  • Naval Instructor or Standards assignment within a Fleet School, Warfare Centre or Sea Training organization.
  • Planning and executing naval training, operations, or maintenance.
  • Strong technical background.
  • Prior exposure to naval simulation.
  • Experience with training needs analysis.

Position Overview

The chosen candidate will be responsible for providing military naval operational and training experience to the Training Systems Integration (TSI) naval team as a leader in naval training systems, providing specialized advice during the development of naval training solutions based on extensive naval operations experience.

To meet all the TSI needs of naval training programs, the candidate requires considerable experience in the naval environment, with a clear indication of expertise in various naval areas, maritime systems, and/or naval instructor assignments.

Role & Responsibilities

Primarily assigned to the River-class Destroyer Cross-Product Team responsible for the Instructional System Design for training solutions for the first ships crews and shore support staffs, the candidate will:

  • Prepare, plan, and execute naval training system solutions.
  • Research developments in the maritime industry to remain aware of innovative technologies that could be applied to maintenance training solutions.
  • Apply knowledge of the RCN to support the Integrated Training Solution Lead in formulating complex surface warship training solutions.
  • Apply knowledge of the RCN to ensure alignment of training solutions with the Future Naval Training Strategy (FNTS) and CONOPS.
  • Perform trade studies to select appropriate training solutions from CAE and supplier offerings.
  • Identify and analyze risks and opportunities, and propose appropriate treatments.
  • Articulate solution features and benefits into compelling proposals in cooperation with proposal development team
  • Create and maintain Training & Test Procedures and associated scenarios and lesson plans.
  • Test training systems to ensure the design, training, and project requirements have been adequately met within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Work with Naval Business Development Teams to provide input to potential customers (as required) and assist with estimates for Bids and Proposals.
  • Identify and actively participate in the resolution of training system defects as early as possible during the project execution

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of the Canadian Forces Individual Training and Education System (CFITES) or similar System Approach to Training (SAT)
  • Knowledge of the CAF Military Employment Structure and Framework in its application to Training Development and Execution strategies
  • Knowledge of modern training techniques and technologies (e-learning, simulation, VR/AR, synthetic environments, etc.)
  • Must have extensive experience withing the Royal Canada Navy (RCN) or similar national naval service
  • Presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills, in both verbal and written format
  • Ability to use Windows-based computers and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Visio, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively within a team collaborative environment on-site and remotely
  • Ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and manage own tasks independently.
  • Meet the requirements of the Canada Controlled Goods Program (CGP), a Level II (NATO SECRET) Security Clearance and ITAR requirements
  • Work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen, a Permanent Resident or with a valid Work Permit Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail

Preference will be given to those with experience with:
